Fermented too hot, smells like bread yeast.

It was measuring the ambient temperature. This may be a dumb move on my part but I'm guessing putting it in a glass of water would be a better indicator of the temperature in the fermenter. I pitched the wort at 80 degrees, the temperature of my apartment was about 75 at the time (I had the...

Fermented too hot, smells like bread yeast.

Haha, that would be nice but I'm on the top floor of the apartment, we get free heat, so even if I turn my heat completely off in the middle of the winter my apartment is about 80 degrees due to the people downstairs.

Fermented too hot, smells like bread yeast.

I brewed a Weiss beer last night, everything was going well, Pitched the WLP300, put it in my keezer that i'm using as a temperature controlled fermenter (my apartment is always hot). I set the Johnson Controls dial to 65F and went to bed. I get up, open the lid on the keezer and smell bread...

Strawberry Banana Cream Wheat - How does it look?

Definately don't want the bubblegum. So I should probably pitch a fresh batch of 3068? I was trying to keep the costs lower by re-pitching part from the secondary of the aventinus clone. By the way, I love your blog. I've been following it for awhile, one of my favorites! I was going...

Strawberry Banana Cream Wheat - How does it look?

I'm going to brew this once my Aventinus clone is kegged because I'm going to use the yeast from it. The banana flavor will come from the Wyeast 3068, fermented at a temperature of 75 degrees to bring out the banana flavor. I'm adding lactose for the sweetness and cream properties. The flaked...

    One week in the bottle.

Most of my beers have tasted nasty even after a month in the bottle, but give it time and you'll be surprised at what age can do. I remember I was all excited about my first christmas ale, when I opened it after 2 months in the bottle, it tasted like someone dumped a whole cup of Equal...

    the apartment brewer

I'm curious to find out how many people get complaints about the smell. I'm renting a house now but due to money I'll probably move to an apartment soon. I'm worried about smell complaints.

    Favorite Commercial Ciders?

Strongbow! Me and my friends go out to "Pull some arrows" every now and again. We've started an archer's club. =)

    Accidental awesome beer

I usually mix a guinness and a strongbow at my local pub. I like it mixed better than separated. Mixing is good!
