Isolated Yeast (Tree House): How to Identify and Characterize?

I went to treehouse for the first time in ten months, since I really started chasing how to replicate their beers. I have to say, either I have had a huge palate shift/development since I've started making and drinking these hoppy creations en masse or somehow the treehouse quality has gone down...

Isolated Yeast (Tree House): How to Identify and Characterize?

Nah, I don't think there's really any information to be gained from that- breweries dump so much stuff down the drain. Zinc is an often overlooked nutrient for yeast though.

Isolated Yeast (Tree House): How to Identify and Characterize?

Some notes on the batch I brewed: -Mouthfeel of the blended beers (t-58, London esb) is definitely on point right now. Creamy and smooth, also had a 1.5:1 Cl:SO4 ratio which might be helping. Starting a CBC-1 carb tomorrow so will post about that later. -Not a fan of the Muntons Maris Otter I...

Isolated Yeast (Tree House): How to Identify and Characterize?

Hey all, great job on the R&D! First time posting in this thread. I'm not sure if there's a consensus yet on the best way to go about things but here's what I'm up to: 8/22: Made 8 barrels of IPA and split into two tanks, 7 barrels fermented with London ESB pitched at 75* for 12 hours then...

    Nelson/Galaxy Black IPA

    After a recommendation from a friend I think I'm going to drop the nelson and bump up the galaxy a little to look something like this: 60min 2oz Warrior(~16%) 5min 1oz Nelson Sauvin(12.5%) 5min 0.5oz Galaxy (15.8%) 0min 1oz Nelson 0min 1oz Galaxy Whirlpool@180F for 30 minutes - 1.5oz Galaxy...

    Nelson/Galaxy Black IPA

Hey all. I had this idea to do a blackened Heady Topper clone because why not, but due to my location I only have access to certain ingredients so I figured I would take the heady clone recipe and make some changes. I have a couple pounds of nelson sauvin and galaxy hops so I'd like to showcase...

New Danstar Belle Saison Dry Yeast?

Really impressed with this yeast. Ambient room temp here in the tropics is about 80-85f, and I wanted to see what this yeast would do. Exploded out of my fermentor the day after pitching. Imperial dragonfruit saison finished at 1.000 in about a week and a half. Added 1lb of raw sugar 3 days...

    Using regular Carafa (not special/de-husked)

Well, I'm gonna give it a go tomorrow. Will let you know the results if anyone's interested.

    Using regular Carafa (not special/de-husked)

Hello everyone, I've come up dry with my searches on regular Carafa usage. From what I read it's super astringent and bitter and nobody uses it, with the special de-husked, de-bittered malt being what everyone goes for. Unfortunately where I live I only have access to the regular, husked...

    Using SS water tanks?

Thank you for your vote of confidence, Wilserbrewer! I have a extra 1000L one of these sitting outside my house I wish I could put to good use. Not sure how much but definitely a lot. I've only shipped small things out and it's expensive. You could probably check some Chinese websites for...

    Using SS water tanks?

Hello everyone. I'm a brewer living in Southeast Asia (Vietnam), and I'm looking to expand my current brewing production. Brewing equipment is hard come by here. A lot of houses use these stainless steel tanks to hold water on their roofs, and I was wondering their viability for use in the...

    Plastic tubing for ferm chiller?

Forgot about PEX, thanks. Seems like it would work and would be easier to work with! Anyone have an objection to that?

    Plastic tubing for ferm chiller?

Hey all, As I'm about to drop some bucks to build my 15g internally cooled conical fermenter, I was wondering if I could use food grade plastic tubing as a cooling coil on the inside of my fermenter as opposed to stainless steel. I know the thermal conductivity is not going to be as great...

    Help! Brewing with limited grains

Awesome. Thanks for the info (and reassurance)! That brown ale looks great, I think will give that a go. All of the microbreweries in Vietnam at the moment are German or Czech lager breweries, so this company is pretty much selling for them. But I'll hit them up and see if they are planning (or...

    Help! Brewing with limited grains

Hello all, first time poster long time lurker. I'm a brewer from the US who has pretty much picked the worst possible country to live in while pursuing the hobby of homebrewing... Vietnam. I had some ingredients shipped from the US, but as I continue brewing, this is no longer financially...
