yup, the whole thing is. I've had a few requests for parts, but i'm hoping to drop the whole lot before splitting it up.

District of Columbia DC/MD/VA - Gas-Free Electric AG Brewery

Howdy all, We're moving into a smaller place and it can't come with my! I'm getting rid of my custom all-grain brewing kit along with all the extras. It has everything you need to go from beginner to contest winner! There's a lot here so I'd prefer a local pickup. I have over $1200 just in the...

Cooler Bulkhead for Heat Element? Help!

It's held up great! I've lost count of how many batches I've run through, and no issues. I'd suggest making sure you stir well, as its prone to hot-spots. Adding an automatic agitator would be a good idea (haven't got around to it myself, but on my list). I documented my research and the...

    Caramel Apple Mead

Just brewed this today. I didn't notice my DME supply was running low and I only had about 1lb of it left. I compensated with some light rock candy sugar and a bit more of the buckwheat honey. My guestimations must not have been too horrible - my OG was 1.124. Think this will have any...

    Is Over-boiling a Concern?

Awesome, thanks guys! Now that I know what the problem is, I can work on fixing it :) I have some SSR's and a new arduino en route, so I'll put them to good use as soon as they get here. Thanks!

    Is Over-boiling a Concern?

I've been running my electric brewery for a few months now... maybe a half dozen batches. One thing I've noticed is that I always end with with about 1 gallon short on wort volume. I'm accounting for dead-space in my tun, loss to my counter-flow chiller, etc. Regardless of the type of beer, it's...

Cooler Bulkhead for Heat Element? Help!

i was wondering about that. would you happen to be able to find any links or photos showing how it was done? I was thinking of trying to bend them at some fairly extreme angles to spread the heat a bit... not sure if that's a good idea or not

Cooler Bulkhead for Heat Element? Help!

More photos attached. This should show where I drilled my holes, how things lined up, etc. If you have a long element like I used, I'd suggest not running in directly towards your valve outlet! My element is right up against the valve. The handle got quite toasty ;) Otherwise, it was pretty...

Cooler Bulkhead for Heat Element? Help!

I finished mine a couple weeks ago and using that technique worked great. I sealed it with silicone for good measure, but it didn't leak without. I also added a gang box to keep the wiring somewhat protected. I have some detailed photos at home. Ill share after the weekend.

I've found the one major downside to electric brewing

During the storms that hit the DC area a few weeks ago, Port City Brewing Co lost power while in the midst of fermenting a 13,000 gallon batch! Temps were over 100*F during the week-long outage. They managed to MacGyver a semi-solution... either way, it's a fun read...

Cooler Bulkhead for Heat Element? Help!

I've decided to transition to all-grain brewing, and I've settled on the use electric heat instead of gas. The first project I'm tackling is the construction of my HLT. I decided to use a 10gal Igloo round cooler. I've seen a few projects where folks have install the heater vertially through...

    Chamberless Fermentation Cooling?

Being cheap and maintainable are some of my goals, as well. I don't mind putting in a bit of wrench time if it'll pay off in the long run. As far as costs go, the chiller plates run between $50 and $80 depending on how much surface area you want. They can be reused for chilling hot wort, as...

    Chamberless Fermentation Cooling?

Howdy HBT, first post so please go easy on me :) I'm new to home brewing, but I'm already seeing how important precise temperature control is. So that's my primary focus at the moment. Most people seem to use some sort of chamber to accomplish this and that seems to do the trick pretty well...
