Pale ale with red x and rye recipe trial

You could always add in some carafa special 3 when you sparge. Probably only need a very small amount to get the colour back. Do you use any brewing software? If so, you’re aiming for about ebc30. Red x alone will give you this. Plug the numbers in and see you get. BeerSmith is well worth the...

Pale ale with red x and rye recipe trial

Just red x on its own will work fine. My brew with it had plenty of body. However, your subject is ‘pale ale...’ so if you’re truly after a pale beer I wouldn’t bother with red x at all. If you want your beer to be pale I’d probably use pale ale malt and a touch of dark crystal, say 2%. If...

Pale ale with red x and rye recipe trial

I made a SMASH with red x and mandarina bavaria for a camping trip at the end of last summer. Turned out really great. Very sessionable, basically the whole 5gal batch went the first night! From memory it had a slight residual sweetness, there was a definite toffee caramel malt profile...

    Fuller's porter clone BYO recipe

I recently brewed a clone of Fuller’s London Porter following the recipe in Wheeler’s book (highly recommend you get a copy if you haven’t already! https://shop.camra.org.uk/brew-your-own-british-real-ale.html). Only change was I swapped fuggles for bramling cross. Beer turned out really...

preparing to make a coconut curry hefeweizein

I've not tried brewing this (or any other hefe so far) but it does sound interesting. I guess that if the beer you had tasted like lamb tikka Kerala then get all those ingredients in. I know from cooking that curry leaves can have a very strong love-it-or-hate-it flavour so experiment before...

Which Hops for Orangey / Pineappley Hoppy Saison

I'd say for orange either Mandarina Bavaria or First Gold. Pineapple I'd go for Vic Secret. Use these late or dry hop and not for bittering. I haven't heard of Denali, just googled it and they sound tasty.

    Why Sugar for DIPA Recipes?

Think how high abv and drinkable a quad is - simple sugars.

    Why Sugar for DIPA Recipes?

Because you want a high abv and you want it to finish dry.

    English Mild Looking for Help

Ow am ya? If you're interested in mild ales I'd suggest getting yourself a copy of Graham Wheeler's 'Brew Your Own British Real Ale'. It's basically a book of cloned British milds, bitters, porters & stouts. The mild recipes include some 'modern' (i.e. post ww2) milds and examples of some...

Bottle conditioning British pale ales and bitters

I'd like to get your opinions on whether or not to prime British pale ales and bitters prior to bottle conditioning. I've been using ~60 g DME to prime ~20 litres. I'm finding this works for more hop forward APAs and (with perhaps another 20 g or so DME) IPAs but not for my bitters. With...

Styrian Golding vs. Styrian Celeia hops?

I think they are both the same thing: Fuggles grown in the Slovenia.

    Snapped shoots

Ha! Fair enough! Will let them just get on with it and wait for the new shoots to appear

    Snapped shoots

I'm guessing just put it back in the ground? This is what I've done..

    Snapped shoots

Hi all, I'm growing hops for the first time this year and could do with some advice... I planted the rhizomes yesterday with manure and compost. To cut a long story short, my dog dug them up and all of the little purple/green shoots have now snapped off! Will these grow back or is it game...
