    Bottle bomb question

Has anyone blown the airlock as well as the plug off a carboy. I had that happen to me today, I obviously filled the carboy to much Wednesday.

    Drank MY first beer

I drank the first beer I brewed today and was pleasantly surprised. It was a MR. Beer diablo ipa kit. The beer tasted similar to a smuttynose, which I'm not crazy about, I am pleased though that I haven't died from it. Anyone that is sitting on the fence about home brewing should just take the...

I read somewhere to put a few marbles in the bag so it will sink. Also I have been told not to dry hop more than a week.

    Midwest Supplies

I recently purchased two kits and some miscellaneous supplies from Midwest brewing. When the products arrived one of the DME was torn open and all over the place. Swmbo called them the next day and without any question they agreed to ship out a replacement at no charge. I will defiantly be using...

    Third time's a charm

I love to drink the IPA's; the hoppier the better. I currently have a Mr. Beer Kit Diablo and a Brewers Best IPA fermenting. I decided to give one of the clone recipes I found on here a shot http://https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f12/lagunitas-hop-stoopid-clone-straight-lagunitas-327076/. I am...

    Fernentation rates

I made two separate beers on Sunday. The first was a 5 gallon better beers kit. It is in a 6.5 gallon glass carboy and bubbling every 4-6 seconds. I also made a 2 gallon mrb kit and have it fermenting in a 6.5 gallon bucket. I are bubbles every 20 seconds or so. Is the difference in bubble...

    Plastic vs. glass

Is there any advantage to using glass carboys over plastic? Plastic is obviously less expensive and therefore would allow for more money to be spent on beer.

    Hello From Tinley Park

I've also been to the brew n grow in bollingbrook which was very nice the only negative was the distance from the house. They did have very knowledgable staff which is great for someone just entering the hobby.

    Question from the new guy...

Everything I have read says to avoid direct sunlight. If you are that concerned you could place a towel over it.

    Hello From Tinley Park

My brother is not Tim. Sorry I picked the kit up today from Alsip nursery. Not sure i wouLd really qualify it as a lhbs but they did have what I am looking for. When three - four weeks is mentioned is that before bottling or before consuming?

    Hello From Tinley Park

Took you advice and cooked two batches today. I had a mr. Beer diablo kit that I used. I read somewhere to let it heat for 45 minutes for it to taste better. After that I had to try out the brewers best kit I picked up. I went to the lhbs and picked up a brewers best IPA. It was really a lot...

    Greetings from Chicago!

While I've only been to the brew n grow in bollingbrook and have nothing to compare them with within the hobby, I do work in retail. The service was pretty awesome. The clerk at the store took as much time with me as I needed and was willing to answer any questions I had. I have been told Alsip...
