I think I'm not supposed to ask this but... about how much does DME weigh per some unit of volume?

Alright, I think I'm on the low side but I'm going to go for it and find some other sugars to throw in. Thanks y'all!!

    Compost bucket sour?

This just came to me this morning - I think name for this has to be "beerkashi" (after bokashi composting) ... and then saw that you're still posting updates. This is amazing

I think I'm not supposed to ask this but... about how much does DME weigh per some unit of volume?

I'm struggling to find an estimate of this. I assume that's because it's like flour and can be packed down, so I shouldn't be measuring it by volume anyways. ... It's just that I'm without a scale for a little while and I have an unknown quantity of DME, and hops. If I have less than 1 lb /...

    Compost bucket sour?

Seconding this. I've gotten it once in a beer too that I put a bunch of vegetable matter into as an experiment. As far as I know, not dangerous, but I think I can notice an off-flavor in my vegetables once it forms, but more importantly if I leave it long enough, mold can actually grow on the...

    Drosophila

Omg I love this. Honestly I've found a few in the sediment and still drank it but that's just me lolol Seconding what everyone else said: Mainly, some beer on the outside is exposed to a lot of oxygen so acetobacter can go to town and turn alcohol into acetic acid (so if you smell around the...

    Hello new friends!

Hi! I usually use packaged yeast for drinks, but for vegetables and fruits I've rarely needed to add anything as a starter. Now that you've mentioned it though I want to try it. Next time I make hot sauce I'll set some of the liquid aside and see what it does with some mead and some beer.

Why are brewing results sour with a mix of sugar types?

When I make mead, it's consistently sweet or at least tastes like honey. When I make a beer with DME only, it tastes like beer. When I combine these recipes and use half honey half DME, it's consistently sour! Why is this?

    Hello new friends!

I'm here because I like having yeasty friends, and because I *love* to experiment with everything in my life. I was ruined by Sandor Katz - I am less interested in sanitizing everything, and more interested in how I can create environments for microbes who will create tasty things for me...
