What beer would you describe as the beer that 'awakened' you...?

Not many I find like these, but I couldn't pick: Moylan's Tipperary Caffery's Cream Ale Well's Banana Bread Ale

    Vendor Suggestions

Have enjoyed Moylans for years, their Tipperary and Imperial Stout come to mind! Blue Frog in Fairfield has one of my favorite Hefeweizens as well. Racer 5 is a very good IPA, man I am gettin thirsty.

    Vendor Suggestions

I am in NorCal as well, Morebeer has a showroom in Concord. I also have ordered online from Austin Brewing, Williams Brewing, Northern Brewer, and KegConnection (so far). All depends on what I needed, pricing, etc..

    Peltier-cooled Conical

Good info., thanks Yuri and beerthirty. The little bit of info. I have found on the morebeer unit shows it does appear to work. Here in NCAL, if I could get a unit that could always cool 20 degrees below ambient it would help greatly.

    Peltier-cooled Conical

no problem, if you get one give me the skinny on how things are attached :> I think I have been fermenting to high a temp., so need convince the old lady I "need" this !

    Peltier-cooled Conical

Morebeer sells a pretty expensive Conical that promises to cool 25-33 F lower than room temp. It has a heater as well, but the 7.1 Gallon deal is 14 bags of ziti ($1400!). http://morebeer.com/view_product/16166/102278/Complete_Conical_Fermenter_-_With_Cooling7.1_Gallons I am wondering if...

    First All Grain try, BIAB

The funny thing is, in the pot the bag is fine - I keep it a bit raised and no issues. The problem is, when I put the bag on the outside of the pot (the edges, to hold it in place) the bag touching the steel on the non-wort side gets too hot at times.

    First All Grain try, BIAB

my burner is the problem, I get quite a bit of heat up the sides and killed my first bag just getting to 170 degrees. I may have to hold the bug up off the sides for 5 minutes or so while I do the final mash next time. Efficiency related as you mentioned shortyjcobs, I wonder how fermentation...

    First All Grain try, BIAB

I agree on the clarifier use, I used a tablet in my first brew. Will need to add that addition (tab or Irish moss) to my next batch, still in the educational stages so far. My first Porter was killer - really like the taste. The Creme Ale I made was more like a Blue Moon, more citrusy -...

    First All Grain try, BIAB

I did not do much of a mash-out this time, just brought it directly to boil. You do that with the bag in the pot still right? I did not want to risk my bag burning again, so decided to just keep it at 150 or so and then removed back and started to take it to boil. Will have to try to goto 170...

    First All Grain try, BIAB

Thanks PoB, I will check into the cloudy beer issue as I plan on using this method for many other beers as well. After just 4 hours, I am already getting bubbles in the airlock. Much faster than the extract kits I used. Here is the burner I have, sounds like a jet plane at times...

    First All Grain try, BIAB

This is a summary - good for my memory but others may find it useful (or maybe humorous) : I picked up an inexpensive Stout all-grain kit and thought I would try my my hand at Brew In a Bag. I filled my 10 Gallon pot with 7.25 Gallons water - I went with this amount based solely on the size...
