    GIVEAWAY TIME - INKBIRD Wireless Meat Thermometer INT-11P-B

    I would want to have it (inkbird wireless meat thermometer).

    Flip cap failure...

    I see, pliant is a better word. But my experience is different. I found the rubber - or whatever the Grolsch gasket material is - to be more conforming than silicone gaskets.

    Flip cap failure...

    I have seen the seams too. It's the leading theory for me. I haven't tried using Grolsch swing-tops on the brown bottles bought online. It's something to try if they fit. There is also the gasket material. A lot you can buy are silicone, which seems a harder material. Grolsch bottles are harder...

    Limiting oxidation: effect of purging headspace O2 in a bottle conditioned IPA

    I agree that BeerSmith Podcast #293 is worth a listen. The capping on foam presented in it is of the counter-pressure bottling variety, which I can't do, but there are informative tidbits throughout.

    Strange particle floaty

    I've made a simple cider a couple of times with Safeway store brand apple juice and EC-1118 yeast. It came out clear. I bottled it after one month using frozen concentrated apple juice to slightly carbonate during bottle conditioning. Carbonation of Cider in Beer Bottles It's easy; I should...

    Strange particle floaty

    Let us know your progress. If possible still, try getting a photo that is more in focus. Possibly the floating bits are a pellicle, which isn't dangerous. Someone might be able to identify if the photo is clear. It would also be interesting to know the ingredients, your recipe, and sanitizing...

    Strange particle floaty

    Wait, are these particles the only activity you've seen in two weeks?

    Limiting oxidation: effect of purging headspace O2 in a bottle conditioned IPA

    Thank you both for the advice. I tried the tilt method with the raspberry co-sour today, and it worked quite well. I filled to 1" of headspace rather than 1/2". The bottling wand I used had the spring, which I left in place. It worked fine. I sprayed a little Private Preserve gas before closing...

    Limiting oxidation: effect of purging headspace O2 in a bottle conditioned IPA

    I'm replying to the first post, from August 2018, where headspace purging with Private Preserve was introduced. When I first discovered this conversation, I got some Private Preserve and tried it with one low- and one zero-hopped batch of home brewed beer, a porter and a raspberry co-sour...

    Limiting oxidation: effect of purging headspace O2 in a bottle conditioned IPA

    There is quite a bit elsewhere on HomeBrewTalk suggesting that CO₂ used in brewing be food grade. You can get food grade dry ice, but I would question whether the dry ice available at some grocery stores is food grade.

    How much PBW do you use to soak a 5 gallon Carboy?

    Regarding the weight per tsp of PBW, the quote from the company (Post #14 above from 2014) is misleading. This post agrees a lot more closely to what I just got for the weight of PBW powder purchased this month. Two level Tablespoons of PBW weighs about 1.1 ounce. How much PBW to use seems...

    Filtering hops during transfer from fermenter to bottling bucket

    You could hang this type of hop filter on the rim of your bottling bucket and put the transfer tube in it.

    using hop bags

    Would you say that this time you got more flavor out of the hops compared to using muslin hop bags? The downside was, it seems, that the strainer you used let too much hop matter through. And from personal experience, fine strainers clog really easily. What's a beer-maker to do? - use more bags...

    using hop bags

    No problem, just checking in.
