    Bottling wine

Hello So today I went ahead and bottled my first ever wine. I did forget to add metabisulfite just prior to bottling. I did add metabisulfite approximately two weeks ago during clearing. Did I just screw it up, or is the addition I made two weeks ago good enough?

    S.G. when racking to secondary

I also think its a little slow considering the other posts saying theirs completed in 5-6 days. Can the fact that I have been stirring too gently be a reason why, which results in more CO2 in the wine? That I need to stir a little more vigorously to release more CO2? That, in addition to too low...

    S.G. when racking to secondary

I mean it's been sitting in primary for 8 days today. Starting gravity was about 1.086 and current specific gravity just now is about 1.020. Airlock is still bubbling pretty good. It's been sitting at 23 degrees Celsius (73,5 F). This is technically not a kit as I bought all the ingredients...

    S.G. when racking to secondary

What should be the target S.G. I should aim for before I rack my wine into secondary fermenter?

Adding grape concentrate to an already fermenting wine with a little too much water?

So three days ago I put my first ever wine into primary fermentation. This is a 23L (6 gallon) wine kit. As I was tweaking with the sugar contents to get it closer to 1.090, I boiled some water and added sugar to the water to make a concentrate, cooled it off, and then I added it to the must...

    Oak chips

When added to primary, do the oak chips need to be punched down into the wine multiple times a day, like you have to with grape skins?

    Temperature control

Hello So yesterday I put my first ever cabernet sauvignon to primary fermentation. Yay! I have the primary fermenting bucket inside a chest freezer, and with that chest freezer I use an InkBird ITC-308 temperature controller set to 23 degrees celcius (about 73 F). I have the differential set to...

Stirring the wine during primary fermentation

Okey, because my recipe says I should stir at least once a day, but I guess its better to leave it as is do not oxidate the wine? What if I feel the yeast slowing down, will it then be okay to stir a little to get it going again? Does it help?

Stirring the wine during primary fermentation

Hello Which methods are you using to vigorously stir the wine during primary fermentation to bring enough oxygen into the wine? I feel like stirring with the stirring spoon isn’t doing the job properly. Tips and ideas? Also I am new to winemaking and just sat my first wine to ferment! Really...

    Dryhopping in bag

Hi! Tried to dryhop my extract brew with the hop pellets in a hopbag so that I would strain out most of the sediment from the hops, but there seems to be very weak hop aroma to the beer. Does the hops in a bag reduce the effect? Should I have just poured the hop pellets right into the brew? Will...

    Dissolving carbonation drops

Is says to use two drops per 500ml. My bottles are 330ml, will just one drop still do, or not enough?

    Dissolving carbonation drops

Hi! I have planned to bottle my batch tomorrow morning before work. I did forgot to get priming sugar, but have some carbonation drops laying around that I never used. Will it work if I crush them up, and dissolve it in hot water and adding it into the bottling bucket, and it will work just as...
