I Wish Someone told me before I started homebrewing...

My advice is to go straight to Kegging, All Grain, Get the Grain Mill (went from $30 per 5 gallon bath to $22), Start with Full Boil. Get the Chest Freezer or Frig to Ferment in it is WAY easier than trying to maintain the right temp any other way!!!

What new equipment did you get?

Our latest stuff was a Refractometer - Nice for mid-boil SG and Grain Mill - Great way to lower the price per batch!!! Happy Brewing!!

Metallic after taste in first brew

The fermentation temp, is the temp of the water bath that the primary was in. I had a tall ice chest with the carboy in it and filled it up with water. So while that is not the temp of the actual beer, it is pretty darn close.

Hey Brewers, My first brew batch has a metallic finish in the taste. I am wondering if fermenting at too high a temperature could lead to the metallic taste. Below is pretty much everything I wrote down during the brewing process. Any ideas? I know a lot of information, but I figured...

We got a 3 tiered gravity system with burners, 3 large (~13 gallons, so 50 liter) kettles (two with thermometers, one with a sight gauge), Oxygenator set up, 2- 5 gallon kegs, 3 smaller kegs, bottle dryer, spoons, etc, etc. I think we got a pretty good deal. Plus with 5 of us involved costs are...
  13. Primary setup - I had an S air lock, but it kept blowing foam out the top, so I substituted a bigger tube into a container of R/O water and peroxide, which seems to be working great!
