    Plastic fermenters retaining beer scent?

Hi, I use plastic tanks to ferment my beer. After 3 or 4 brews I noticed that I cannot get rid of the beer smell. And yes I wash them thoroughly. As an experiment I washed, scrubbed and rinsed one of them twice using soap. Then I disinfected it and rinsed again. Once dried it still...

What is the minimum temp for fermenting beers? + side question

As in the title, I'm just curious. Side question - Many kits I brewed in the past recommend to ferment at a stable temperature around 64,4 to 73,4 F. I read somewhere else that it is actually better to ferment for longer periods at lower temperatures, for example between 53,6 to 57,2 F...

Does it matter to follow the recipe when it comes to fermentation time?

Hi, novice here, just cooked my first all grain batch after a few kits. The more I read about fermenting the more I'm starting to realize that it doesn't really matter to follow the recipe when it comes to the recommended length of the fermentation process. The recipe of the batch I...

    The cost of homebrew

Norway here (alcohol is extremely expensive)... apart for the fun and pride of brewing myself I will end up saving serious money by brewing my own beer. Of course, I'm a beginner and I haven't had a chance to take off with expensive equipment yet, let's see.

Best sugar type for priming a Dortmunder export lager?

Hi, I just finished my first ever all grain brew, it was fun!!! In 3 weeks I have to add the priming sugar but in the recipe it is only specified the amount that I have to use but NOT the type of sugar. I have seen that for lager it is generally accepted to use white table sugar as a...

Does home-brewed beer give less hangover or is it in my head?

hehe.. I guess I'll stick to my 7 or 8 pints of home-brew then. No hangover & no "mud butt" :)

    Hi from Norway

Thanks for the solidarity :) Yes, luckily home brewing is picking up very quickly in Norway (I wonder why ?!?!?!) and there are now a few companies offering good prices on brewing equipment and quality ingredients. Now it's just a matter of choosing the right tools for my needs and start...

Does home-brewed beer give less hangover or is it in my head?

Nice to know that it's not only in my head. Next time I'll try harder and see if I still do not get a hangover after 10 pints. Just for scientific purposes of course. Luckily I do not drink bourbon so I can definitely notice if it's the beer that makes the difference :)

    Hi from Norway

Thanks! Absolutely, some of my favorite stouts are around 4,5% and I absolutely love them. It's just that I cannot find them in regular stores, you have to go to the "special" stores and give blood. No, there are no restrictions on home-brew ABV... but if I remember correctly, anything over 65%...

    Hi from Norway

Hi, I'm 35 and I write from Norway. I just got into the hobby of home brewing and I love it. I'm looking forward to buy more adequate equipment and move from brewing "kits" to brewing with raw ingredients only. Btw... in Norway alcoholic beverages sold in the shops must have an alcoholic...

Does home-brewed beer give less hangover or is it in my head?

Hi, I live in Norway and I just started home brewing since 6 months. On some weekends I enjoy to have a few beers. I noticed a strange thing, at least to me....If I drink 2 1/2 liters (5 pints) of commercial beer I always get a light headache when I get up the next day. I also feel a...
