New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

for me the key is colder DH and super good quality hops + mixing in some advanced products to boost saturation. Doing it off the yeast post ferm is huge too

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Two more as I try to clear my hop fridge out before I move: TRANCE (6.8%) - 100% Freestyle Nelson 1.075 --> 1.024 MALT 70% pilsner 27% flaked oats 3% maltodextrine mashed at 154, 5.2 PH HOT (for approx 6.5 gals) 6oz Nelson CGX 30 min WP at 170 -dropping KO pH to 5.0 with phosphoric 3 packs of...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

We mostly aren't doing the braufessor recipes anymore, this thread has kind of morphed into just a general discussion of NEIPA strangely enough but glad you got a good result

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Double brewday today. All nelson single neipa used about 1oz/gal of Nelson CGX hot side, going to hit it with a 50/50 mix of '23 and '24 Freestyle Nelson in the DH at about 3oz/gal. Other one was a root and branch inspired "multi oat/multi wheat" NE TIPA, wp with Citra Lupomax and HA Motueka -...

Depends on the hop type too. Super hard to get good mosaic from anywhere. Both HA and YVH were straight onions for me. I've had better luck with the HA stuff they source through YCH (their citra and simcoe have been good + all of the cryos they have are amazing).

I agree with dgallo, I LOVE it in WCIPA. The thing is nectaron has a dankness to it that doesn't always fit for NEIPA

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

It's not twice as good obviously, but I'd say maybe 50% better than a beer hopped at half of the rate? I'm big on hop saturation but the beers I do at 12oz and the ones at 24oz are designed really to be different drinking experiences. You do sacrifice a little drinkability at 8lbs/bbl but the...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

About a week. I like my IPAs on the greener side though and prefer a little hop bite. Usually let them carb for 4ish days before I pull a pint, the first pint is just a bunch of sediment, by the third pint I'm usually super happy with it. Usually canning off the whole batch on like day 7 after...

American IPA The New West Coast IPA

I just do 5.2 mash pH to make it easier to adjust down at KO. No specific reason. 5.6 seems a bit high, I've seen people usually target 5.4

24 oz for 6ish gals. 8lbs/bbl is the conversion

American IPA The New West Coast IPA

This actually just took gold at the NHC Tampa regional in American IPA (two years in a row I've won both main IPA categories there). Did it for competitions and wanted the judges to shut up about malt character so leaned maltier for the grain bill but got great new school hop expression on this...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Latest NE here, first TIPA. Very happy with this one, probably my favorite NEIPA to date that I've done. Hop saturation was crazy, my only negative is there's a tiny touch of an onion thing probably from the mosaic (it's so damn hard to get good mosaic nowadays), and a touch of grassiness that...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

Rebrew of my gold medal winning 21C beer from NHC regionals last year. Pretty simple process OG: 1.073 FG: 1.024 ABV 6.5 6.5 gallons into the fermenter 61.5% Pils 25.3% White Wheat 13.2% flaked oats 5.2 mash ph with lactic acid 170:85 Cl:SO4, approx 20 ppm Na 10 ppm Mg 5ibus of mosaic at 20...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

not really. 5 gallons of standard strength (1.048ish) would get 1 packet, 2 for anything 1.070ish, 3 for 1.080's/1.090's. 2 for 10 gallons is a massive underpitch. Especially with a big beer like that you want great yeast health otherwise it'll taste like rocket fuel, not ferment out all the...

New England IPA "Northeast" style IPA

can confirm the 23 galaxy is servicable. Opened the 23 and 24 bags I had on hand to figure out which to use for an IPA I was dry hopping. 24 was ok but had a hint of plastic too it. 23 didn't have that and only minimal earthiness. Still hesitant so only dropped 2oz in to a 14oz total DH but will...
