I know it's not critical for the temp to be stable for cold crashing but I would check my digital thermometer in the morning and it would be like 36 degrees and in the evening it would be over 40! I cold crashed for 6 days and it was still rally hazy! I figure with a more stable temp I could...
I have a sanyo 3.7 cubic ft mini fridge and it doesn't keep a constant temp during my cold crash. The fridge varies 3-5 degrees! Is it possible to hook up a external thermostat to keep the temp more constant? I've read some stuff online but am a bit confused, anybody out there have experience...
I rinsed it again last night then put it in the fridge. This morning I checked it and there is no separation between yeast and trub. It looks like all trub now. Next time I'll try ur method shakes_beer.

Obviously! All the examples I've seen have had the yeast on top of the trub.
Just wondering if there is something wrong with the yeast and if it's still good.
I am attempting to do my fisrt yeast haverst and after washing in the primary I dumped the slurry into a smaller jar and noticed that the yeast has settled on the bottom of the jar, underneath the trub.
What does this mean? Is the yeast still good? How do I go about retreiving the yeast...
@Jakenbacon, that was my initial idea but then became concerned that it may affect my efficiency? Is that possible? My first two AG batches i had a 66 and 69% efficiency.

I was just given an old beer keg and want to convert it to a boil kettle. The problem is my mash tun cooler is 5 gallons and is max'd out with 3.75gal H20 and 12.5lbs of grain. I use a 5gal rubbermaid cooler and do a single infusion mash and 1 sparge.
