How long should I have my pale ale in it's primary fermentation stage? Is two weeks about right or Is one ok before I keg it and let it age?

It's my uncles recipe for a pale ale that he made over the years and it says to use a white labs American ale yeast. I found a yeast that is actually the same product number as the one the recipe calls for but it's a wet yeast. I might just use it because it is so similar to what the recipe...
