    first time blow out

    for the first time, my brew blew out the air lock. I guess it did this some time last night. It does not look like it it going to get any worse. What should i do? Clean and sanitize the air lock? obviously, i'll be gettting a blow off tube and cap now.

    pitched the yeast into the concoction around 7:00 this morning. using white labs pilsner lager yeast. so, what you are saying is these won't alwasy start "fermenting" within 12 hours as my last two have?

    It was still in the flask with the stopper and airlock on it. So, should i just discard most of the clear liquid and put the "pastey-slurry" in as my yeast? If so, I am assuming i should let it get to room temp. Is that correct?

    First brew - cooling the wort

    I use a meat thermometer to test the temp of my cooling wort in the ice bath. Yes, i wash it off an do a quick sanitization between each time i put it in there, but it's not that painful.
