I usually just throw my hops into primary right after fermentation finishes in about a week or so. I keg my beer so a lot of times I will actually put hops in those tea strainer ball things and just toss em into the keg and let them sit in there until I finish the beer.
I can't say much about that company because i've never used them, but could you find it cheaper...probably a tiny bit yet. Overall I think its a fair price for everything you get.
I use a stand up freezer as my ferm chamber and it works absolutely perfect! Of course i've got it hooked up to a temp controller, but I love the fact that I can rack 90 degree beer from the kettle and turn the freezer down to freezing temps to help chill it before I add my yeast. Beats waiting...

I've only poured one batch down the drain...and this sounds like this might be your first. If you don't need the fermenter space, keep it around for a while and see what happens, but it doesn't sound good. Flavors change, but its kinda rare that they go from outright disgusting to a delicious...
Hitting the proper gravity should be more of a concern than getting a full 5 gallons. Eventually you will learn your system and know how much water to start with but adding water afterward is asking for sub par beer... unless your gravity is really high. I always aim for 5.5 gallons at the end...
Its just got the wyeast and white labs huh? Does anyone know how important the other companies are? I mean, I know here in the US WL and Wyeast pretty much dominate, but what about in the rest of the world? And what about dry packs?
Can anyone tell me what they find is the most accurate SRM formula? I've been browsing through this link, but so far I haven't been able to find a formula that matches what pro-mash puts out.
