That's pretty damn clever. I look forward to hearing about how it will work post brewing with the wort, hops and trub obscuring your vision and presumably the hole as well. Could a T pipe be added post pump to the plumbing below to essentially do the same thing without have to fuss with getting...

    Terrible Efficiency with Braumeister

Did you ever get this figured out? I noticed the same thing when I switch over to the shorter malt pipe in the 50L. Right around 55% efficiency, 1.046 with 11.5 pounds of grain. In the past, when I used the normal malt pipe, I would get between 73% and 78% without sparging. WTF?

    Slow, Potential Stuck Fermentation

At the risk of sounding like yet another rube worrying about fermentation, let me just say, that according to my records, this is my 157th batch of beer. I'm guessing that this puts me, near enough that is make no difference, at about my 200th batch of beer. I'm well aware of the magic that...

The flow through the grain bed in a Braumeister isn't all that different from the flow that would occur in a HERMS or RIMS type system. The only difference is the direction of the flow, i.e. bottom to top vs. top to bottom. Since you don't sparge, at least by default, you do need to start...

I'm not sure I'd want to ferment in it. Too pretty and too expensive to relegate to a simple fermenter. I would be interested in figuring out a way to attach a reflux or fractioning column to the copper hood. That way I could have complete distilling setup (mash tun, fermenters and still)...

I'd go with the insulated jacket over the copper hood. The jacket is about 1/3 the price and you'll use it during the entire process not just the boil phase. If you need to you can always put the lid on half way to keep a rolling boil. Granted you can always make your own jacket with a 10...

95.7 for 4000 feet is spot on. http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/boiling-points-water-altitude-d_1344.html

Reinheitsgebot is 500+ years old, it is German beer culture.

It comes down to volume, or a lack of volume. You need enough liquid to keep the heating elements covered while simultaneously pulling liquid down through the plumbing and pushing it up through the grain bed and over the top of the malt pipe. If you don't have enough liquid, you risk exposing...

Has anyone put a tri-clover fitting on their Braumeister yet? I have a bunch left over from my original brewing system and would hate to let them go to waste.

Air pressure affects the boiling point. Water doesn't always boil at 212 degrees F. It only boils at 212 at sea level with pressure at around 14 psi. As you increase altitude, this pressure drops, thus, water will boil at a lower temperature. Roughly, the temperature at which water will boil...

My 50L showed up with similar damage as Redstag's. The box was pretty bashed up and had one hole in it. I was so excited to unbox it, that I didn't even think to take pictures. Anyway, a few small dents caused by, I assume, the malt pipe and slightly wonky lid. The copper top and thermocollar...

I'm using a metro rack stand from Storables. Just a small 18x24 stand that's maybe 14 inches off the ground. The stand allows me to hang the lifting hook off the side, the support bar fits perfectly into the shelf grating pointing downward, and the bottom shelf is perfect for storing the copper...

Hello- I know that there has been a lot of discussion on keeping the filters in place. It seems the two best situations are to use ss wire to "sew" the filter to the false bottom piece or to use ss paperclips to cli the two together. I used the SS wire trick on my last brew, and while it was...
