    Sidekick Clone

Does anyone know what hops Two Brothers uses in their Sidekick Extra Pale Ale? My top suspects would be Citra, Eldorado, and/or Galaxy. One post on these boards guessed that it was single hop Mosaic, but I'm not so sure. Since this beer has been in production for a while, I'm guessing Citra...

    Beer Filtration System

I wouldn't say the filter looks "all nasty" at all. Just sort of stained the same color as the beer. Looks barely used. I used a 1 micron filter, and cold crashed.

    Beer Filtration System

During my search of old postings I found this old thread and I'm hoping someone can help. I received a Beer and Wine filtering kit from MoreBeer (item number FIL40 that looks exactly like the one in the video by the OP). The included instructions are sketchy, but it seemed simple enough...

    Cloves

Background: Spring water, US-05 re-hydrated yeast, extract recipe with steeping grains, Warrior and Cascade hops, clean, sanitized stainless fermenter with temp control and our standard OCD sanitation regime all around, fermented at 66 degrees. Have successfully brewed this recipe several times...

    Lactobacillus? Acetobacter?

And Blizzard... Thanks for the warning. I put on my telescopic glasses once and read all the fine print on the side of the StarSan bottle. You'd think it was plutonium or something from all the scary precautionary verbiage.

    Lactobacillus? Acetobacter?

Thanks for the reply. Of course, I had to run downstairs and lick a spoon filled with StarSan solution. And it DOES have a bit of an acidic bite to it. So, I would say it is plausible that the goop on top of the airlock was StarSan, maybe concentrated through evaporation? I'll try to...

    Lactobacillus? Acetobacter?

It's a standard clear plastic 3 piece airlock filled with StarSan solution. The sour coating of liquid is outside of the airlock, on top of the airlock cover. I trust the fermenting wort inside the bucket is doing fine and tastes nothing like the substance on the top of the airlock. However...

    Lactobacillus? Acetobacter?

While sniffing the airlock on a bubbling primary of pale ale (one of the more enjoyable aspects of brewing) I noticed a film of viscous liquid on top of the airlock that was VERY acidic. I touched it with my finger and then touched my finger to my tongue and it was like battery acid. I'm...

    Gravity, Crystal Malts, and Sweetness

I never thought of that! Thanks for the replies! If anyone else has another viewpoint, I'm eager for more suggestions.

    Gravity, Crystal Malts, and Sweetness

I am having trouble with an extract IPA recipe that finishes too sweet. OG 1.064-1.072, FG 1.012 using Wyeast 1056, sometimes Safale S-05. Current Recipe (4th edition) 7 lbs Light DME 4 oz Carapils 3 oz Caramel 40L Warrior, Cascade, and Citra hops with Hopville calculated IBU 59...
