    Blonde ale = Kölsch ?

Sorry.. My attempt at humor didn't cross the internet well.. Yeah, I was joking about the kolsch debate. I'm not actually afraid to post.

    Blonde ale = Kölsch ?

I'm almost afraid to post, but here goes... The aformentioned beer style in this thread is one I brew all the time. I'm with the posters that have given positive reviews for Omega Kolsch II. Great stuff. Took it (3gals) to a party last summer and it didn't last long. Bunch of crazy...

    Comments on RO System "schematic"

I'd make all that line between the tee/bladder tank/faucet (not necessarily to the ice maker, but...) 3/8" as well. You'll thank me later... lol

    Comments on RO System "schematic"

Lots of good advice here. Some of my points are already covered but I'll throw them in as reinforcement. I brew 15 gal batches. I use more like about 21 gals of water between losses and evaporation. I have a 20 gal and a 14 gal holding tank. Wish I would have went 20 and 20. The...

Brewbuilt X3 opinions/reviews or suggested upgrade?

...which, as he pointed out, he's not. So I stand by my statement. Also consider, we're talking off flavors here. Untreated (?) well water is possibly going to contribute to that as well. I'm recommending addressing his water source as well (no pun intended) at this point. Test brew with...

Brewbuilt X3 opinions/reviews or suggested upgrade?

Couple of thoughts.. Count me in with the group pointing to too warm fermentation temps. Do you have a basement you can ferment in? My basement never gets above 70 deg F. I pressure ferment with 34/70 at these temps and produce good beer. I wouldn't ferment anything (short of a kveik...

    Warm, pressure ferment a Kölsch?

I should've mentioned. I just put enough co2 on it to start for a positive pressure. Maybe 0.5-1 psi. I let the yeast build the pressure so as to allow it to express itself early. FWIW, mine (-044) has a more pear/white wine character. If you drink it too early, you're going to get a...

    Warm, pressure ferment a Kölsch?

I've PF'ed several (4?-5?) 15 gal batches of kolsch with omega yeast 044 and they've turned out great. In fact, so well that I've only made my summer go-to beer once this year. They do need a few extra weeks before consumption. I've thought a few were going to be dumpers from the early...

    Yeast for Kolsch

I am currently drinking a Kolsch I made with Omega Yeast Kolsch II. Came out really good. Nice light end, very drinkable beer. Classic ale flavor with a hint of pear/white wine taste. Would highly recommend this yeast. So good, in fact, that I have another batch in my fermenter right now.

Brewbuilt x2 jacketed or spike cf5

I'm really saying the same thing Bobby said, in another way. I'd add, at this price point, don't let a couple hundred $$ sway you either way. Pony up. Having equipment that suits your purposes more closely will more than make up for the cost over time. I have the Spike CF. I brew PF lagers...

Brewbuilt x2 jacketed or spike cf5

Depends on your needs. If temp control is a big thing for you it might be better to pony up and get the x2. If not, I think the Spike CFs do a good job. They can be temperamental about holding pressure as well but it's something you learn to deal with as it happens. Apartment Brewer just...

    Back To Basics

If this helps...I know this is not my original concept, but... I'm an old guy with a bad back as well. I brew 15 gal batches out of my clawhammer biab system. To remove the basket, I use one of those cheapo $100 electric winches from amazon. I mounted it to the ceiling of my basement and...

Grow lager yeast for 60L batch

I'd consider just buying 3 packs and don't look back. I (warm) pressure ferment 15 gal batches in a spike conical with 3 packs of 34/70 all the time. My target ABV is usually 5-5.5%. I do them in my basement which is currently 68 deg F, without issue. 8 psi on the beer if that helps. I've...
