Is it about brewing good beer or being overly friggin cheap-a$$?

I want good beer at a cheap price, and if it means another hobby then great! So it's a balance of the two.

    Another beginner error- underfilled fermenter

I made the same mistake. It tasted fine afterwards, just stronger and darker than expected. In fact it was my best brew so far, although that's not saying much.

    Saskatoon Berries

They're pretty much a slightly tart blueberry. So any blueberry beer recipe would probably work, just remember it'll be a tad bit more tart. And most of them I see here (Saskatoon) are fairly small.

First attempt at recipe should I steep or mash

Crystal malts don't contain enzymes that convert starch to sugars so mashing won't work for them. (I think, correct me if I'm wrong. Fairly new to brewing)

So THIS is why homebrew needs more than 24hrs in the fridge !

So this is after regular bottle conditioning that it improves in fridge? I didn't think it'd made a difference, thanks. Very interesting I'll definitely try that out.

When you finally make that first good batch of beer.

I used to homebrew with kits over a year ago but have stopped til recently. I started back up but with malt extract now. I made a Porter but I was disappointed with the after taste and thin mouth feel that all of my homebrews have suffered from until now, my spirits were down thinking that I...

    high alcohol vs low alcohol

I prefer to stay on the high end of the styles profile. It means I get more out of my batch by having to savor it a little bit more.
