    Second Try IPA

Yea I figured as much, was an afterthought I was pondering. I did mash on the low side around 145, then raised the temp a bit. Should be sufficiently dry.

    Second Try IPA

Thanks guys. beerkrump, I already brewed this batch 2 days ago, but i will keep that in the back of my mind for next time. bobbrews, I wasn't planning on a secondary. Unless there is a reason you strongly suggest it.

    Second Try IPA

So, following some advice I read here on this forum I made another stab at an IPA on Sunday. I wanted to keep things fairly simple. I did have a couple of .5 oz hop bags lying around, so I used them up for bittering. But the biggest addition was at the end. 10 lbs M.O. 3 lbs. belgian...

    Witbeir yeast

I just bottled a Wit (WLP 400) on Tuesday. Had been on primary almost 4 weeks, yet still had a bit of a "head" when I opened her up. The phenol smell had cleaned up nicely though. As I was bottling I took a small tasting sample in a glass. Put a huge smile and then some on my face. Dying to try...

    Looking for a new kettle

I have one of those pots, but just the one-weld model. It feels cheap as does the false bottom that I got with it. But it does work just fine. The only thing I'm not a fan of is the dimensions. Being quite wide, it takes up a fairly good amount of space on my stove. It also boils off a bit more...

    Stout BK, glass top stove

I just received my Stout 9.2 gal. BK, and I couldn't be more psyched about it! Probably won't get to use it till next week due to time, but hey it happens. One question for anyone who has used one. As we know the outside bottom is a bit different then other pots. Has anyone used it on a glass...

    Dry hopping utilization.

:mug: Cool, only been 4 days since I added the hops. Was checking the progress of it's fermentation and like any curious brewer I tasted the sample before drain pour. Debating on another small addition.

    Dry hopping utilization.

Was curious. How long does it typically take for the effect of dry hopping to show it's maximum flavor/aroma? The OG is 1.064, the yeast is us-05, and the dry hops are 2oz Ahtanum, .5 oz Glacier. Part of my curiosity is due to the fact that I want a fairly strong dry hop. Thanks.

    carbonation over time

So, about 3 weeks ago I bottled the last small-batch extract brew I made. It was however the first batch prime. I had to scale down from a 5 gal batch size to a 2 gal batch for the priming sugar amount. Just tried the first bottle anhour ago, an IPA at about 6.5%. It is a bit on the flat side...

New Guy, 1st and 2nd all grain.

Thanks guys. Yeah, the recipe is a bit different, but seems like half the fun to me. Both smell good coming from the airlock so far, hoping that it is a good sign. :)

New Guy, 1st and 2nd all grain.

Left work early today, really am sick. But, having the time, I did my 2nd all grain brew. My first all grain was on Sunday. The first was a Rye based IPA, to follow the current fashion. All kidding aside, as a professed hop-head I deemed it necessary. Today's brew was a wheat beer...
