    Family Recipe Conversion

For the last 6 years I have been brewing with my wife's family at a "brew your own" shop. After running through all the recipies they offer and being poor; 2 years ago I started to put together the equiptment to brew at home. Well short of a propane tank. Finally guess who is ready to brew at...

    Am I crazy?

Thanks for the responses, I am NOT planning on using the magnetrons, the risk outweighs the benefit. The thought of heating the water in a shorter amount of time was my main driver with this brainstorm. I agree that the Keggle would be one of the biggest problems to work around. I have...

    Am I crazy?

1st I am a LP brewer but I have always been intrigued by E-brewing. While I was retrofitting my bathroom fan for one out of a old microwave got me thinking what to do with a perfectly good transformer and magnetron, after all my wife heats up water for tea every morning. I then quickly scraped...

    Keggle fittings

I like that idea Bobby, your makeing me rethink what I want to do. I was thinking the reverse the solder side of the fitting would get soldered to the keg and the valve would get soldered to that. The dip tube would be on the threaded side in case I wanted to take it out.

    Keggle fittings

Last night I was thinking about it and I had some 3/4" copper fittings laying around and that got me started thinking. I was thinking that I could pull a threaded copper fitting through the wall of the keg with the threaded end on the inside of the keg for a dip tube that can be removed for...

    Keggle fittings

Has anyone ever used a copper fitting instead of the stainless one? I can see why the stainless was/is the gold standard but now being able to solder fittings to stainless why not? B-

    Favorite Hop for Maris Otter

I was in the mood to try something diffrent but this sounds really good. Do you have the hops schedule? amarillo/maris otter SmaSh sounds good too. I could mash the MO as a five gal batch then split it between the 2 hops.

    Favorite Hop for Maris Otter

I plan on doing a Maris Otter SMaSH in the next 2 weeks. Having a problem deciding which hop to use. I keep bouncing between Kent Goldings and Northern Brewer. I'm not going for any style just experimenting with grains and hops.

    Help tweaking this beer

Yeah at this moment I am not equipted to sparge as of yet. I am hoping for a cooler for x-mas. I have been reading up also on "No Sparge" as I can do it with the equiptment I have. This might be the way to go with this next brew. Start the new year with a feet first jump into AG

    Help tweaking this beer

Ok I am looking over my notes and my current OG is 1.050 give or take. I shoot for a FG of 1.013. What I have been doing is putting the crushed grains (split between 2 nylon bags) in my keggle let them soak in 140 degree water for 10 minutes to make sure they are soaked through, then raise...

    Help tweaking this beer

Yup, I have steeped the 10lbs of 2 row....well maybe I have been doing a PM and I am getting confused between the 2. tonight when I get home I'll have to check my notes and I will have more of the particulars.

    Help tweaking this beer

I have been reading that some grains are not so good for steeping, too much starch. Would MO be OK for steeping? or would I have to mash the grains?

That does make sense. That also does sound pretty good. I like the Idea of trying to make this brew a bit more hardier.
