    Hop Id tags gone!

Sometime between last fall and this spring my hop ID tags have gone missing! I have a Hallertau and a Cascade. Pretty much all I know is that one is a little darker green than the other. Any advice on identifying which is what would be greatly appreciated.:mug:

    Cider Bites

Thanks for all the advice! I guess I'll just have to wait till next year. Also I think first year batch of pears had a chance to freeze while still on the tree. This year the pears had not frozen. That could make a huge difference between a pear wine and an ice pear wine.

    Cider Bites

I pressed about three gallons of pears from my in-laws tree. Put them in my sanatised brew pot with 4 crushed campden tabs and let it sit for 24 hrs. I tasted the juice and then siphoned off the juice into my glass carboy, pitched my yeast and away it went. I went to bottle My cider and took a...

    Kegerator Pressure Balancing

Soda and beer have much different carbonation ratios. Soda being on the higher end. I would certainly think if you can dispense a chilled soda without foaming off the head then in theory you should be able to pull a beer. I recommend the carbonation chart in Home Brewing For Dummies, it sounds...

    Good or Bad Idea?

Your good to pitch the entire packet, the more active healthy yeast cells the better. Yeast naturally duplicates itself until it runs out of sugar (food). Yeast will stop duplicating itself when a couple of factors occur, one: the alcohol content gets to high and becomes a toxic environment...

    The Taylor Perry

Can I add cream of tarter to my cider also? How much should I add per gallon? What will acid do if I add that? I havent herd of that before. Do you know of any articles I can read up on? Thanks for being patient with me on this one, I appreciate your suggestions.

    The Taylor Perry

Thanks Greg, I have never heard acid blend what does that do and should I add tannin and acid blend into the secondary? Will this help the wine mellow out and age better?

    The Taylor Perry

I decided to pasturize because I don't agree with the old sayind that they didn't do it in the old days. I want controll over the yeast and be sanitary just incase I want to reproduce the same batch exactly. And whats with saying that we have a weaker imune system because of pasturization...

    The Taylor Perry

Im calling this one the Taylor Perry because its the name of my brother in law who comented that it is a good name "perry" I picked about 100 lbs of pears off my father in law's tree and juiced them. I got about 5 gallons of juice. I put the juice in the brew pot and heated to 160 to kill...

First time cider-er. To Press, or not to Press?

I am making a Perry apple cider it will be about 2/3 pairs 1/3 apples mix of sweet red and tart yellow. I am not sure on the brand of apples and pairs because I picked them from my father-in-laws trees. I plan to cut out the dark spots and run them thru the juicer. After the juicer it's into the...

    I am so Happy

Sounds like a good find, I am excited also. Some day soon I hope to own that kind of equipment. I am using my kitchen Stove for my boil, it does a nice job as it is natural gas and has a 35000 Btu burner on the front left. Gas sure does make a big difference in a boil. I am going to buy a...

    Fermentation - Fast and Furious

For a 3 gallon batch just take the ingredients for a 5-6 gallon batch and cut them in 2/3rds you really cant mess up. As long as there is hops, malt, and yeast it should make beer.:mug:
