I have brewed a few lagers before. The first one I didn't use a starter, and the others I used a 2L starter but only 1 vial. All of those beers turned out very good, but I realize that doesn't mean it's the right way. I just recently I found out about calculating proper starter volumes (and...
I am getting ready to brew an American style lager in a couple weeks and have been doing some research about how big of a starter I need. I came across the mr malty calculator and that told me that using a stir plate I need a 2L starter using 2 vials of yeast.
First of all I have never had to...
The guage of wire needed is going to depend on the size breaker you are using. The wire gauge needs to be rated for the maximum amps your breaker can pull, even if your setup won't use all the current. If you use a 30A breaker in your main panel you can run 10ga. wire to the spa box. That is...
The triclamp will seal just fine. I have a 2" triclamp to 1/2" MPT fitting on the bottom of mine (then a 90 elbow and out the side) and it doesn't leak at all.
So far I have only used whole hops. I haven't thought about pellet hops yet. I'm not sure how I would do that. The bottom is a 2" triclamp to 1/2 MPT and then a 90 elbow. It sticks out about 2-3 inches past the bottom ring of the keg. That's why I have to have the keg elevated. I like the...
I have the Auber pid. It fits with about 3/8" clearance behind it. I don't have pics of the inside yet but once my 3 wire RTD connector shows up I will take it apart and take pics.
My keggle is upside down so it uses a bottom center drain. The 12" false bottom fits perfect. My element is 3-4 inches off the bottom of the keg so the false bottom comes in and out very easy.
Yea I did use the spa box for my controller. I was on a budget so I didn't want to buy another enclosure. I also used an old outlet and switch for my 120v pump circuit. The connector on the bottom is for a dryer outlet. I used dryer cables to power the elements so they plug right in (one at...
Thanks! I plan on brewing every other weekend for the next couple months so I can get everything set up the way I want. The new false bottom showed up yesterday and it fits perfect (Thanks Jaybird!). I also just bought a grain mill so hopefully that should help my efficiency as well.
I'm curious how this works. If you have 2 hots and a ground going into the GFCI how do you get 2 hots, a ground, and a neutral coming out? Can someone else chime in and explain it? I'm having a hard time understanding.
