    Racking cane "filter"

I've tried numerous times to put a type of filter media (sanitized panty hose) over the end of my racking cane to keep the trub out of my keg, but I always seem to start to get air bubbles in my cane and I stop and take the filter off in fear of aerating my beer. Does anyone else have this...

    Will this still work???

Thanks! I guess first thing is to hook it up and see if there are any audible leaks and then go from there!

    Will this still work???

Thanks, the O-ring is in good shape, the lip of the post just curls over it slightly as you can see in the pics. You lost me on what's interchangeable and what's not.

    Increase ABV

I'm brewing an increased abv version of dead ringer tomorrow. You should enter the base recipe into brewers friend, take note of the statistics, then you can adjust the fermentables, hops, etc, to get your abv up and keep the other aspects of the beer in check. I plan on adding a pound of...

    Will this still work???

Also, if I get a new post, will any ball lock post fit the keg or are they brand specific? I'd check my other keg, but it's full of a tasty coffee stout!

    Will this still work???

Bought a used ball lock keg and wondered if this gas post would still work without leaking, or is it a lost cause?

Hydromter reading prior to racking to secondary

I agree with Calder, I've all but quit using a secondary unless I need an extra primary for a new brew. Also, you said your temperature was around 70-72? From what I've read, that's on the high side for Nottingham. It seems to have a pretty good tolerance for lower Temps. I usually try to...

    Well, that's a first. . .

Unfortunately I do not have a ferm chamber, but I do have a cool basement and it is 10 degrees outside!

    Well, that's a first. . .

I'll have to see if I can get it chilled that low

    Mis-handled yeast

^ +1. . . Just make a starter and you can be sure you'll be good to go!

    Well, that's a first. . .

I'm assuming you mean start the beer fermentation at a lower temperature? Can you explain why?

    Well, that's a first. . .

I've now been reading about this stuff since having my first yeast explosion. My main question was is there enough yeast, which I'm pretty confident there is. As for the beer, I always use a blow off tube when brewing, don't even waste time with an airlock anymore.

    Well, that's a first. . .

Good call. I'll do that when I get home. I did wipe the mouth of the jug with a rag soaked in StarSan and replaced the foil with a new piece. I'm expecting similar results when this beer ferments.
