alright i got my notes out and this is all the info i have on the situation. I started with a 5 gallon carboy and added 17.5 lbs of clover/wildflower honey pitched a d47 yeast and must was at 81 degrees at time of pitch. i dehydrated the yeast with go ferm and added dap and fermaid k a few...
long story short i have 5 one gallon batches of mead that have been in stuck fermentation for almost a year. i have seriously tried everything from adding fruit, adding ec 1118 yeast and nutrient to try and start it up and the last thing i can think of is my pH is high, so i tested it and its...
oh yea sorry its 1.048, i think what i am going to do is add 2.5 gals of cider and a few raisins turn this into a three gallon batch and add the ec-1118, i would do 5 but i already have fifteen gallons going but i cant wait to see how this turns out. i suspect i am going to have to let it age...
i also posted this in the cider forum but not really sure who to ask
don't know what the outcome will be but i have a about a half gallon of mead i made 9 months ago and i think it is in a stuck fermentation because the gravity is at 1.48 i tried drinking some of it but it is way to sweet and...
don't know what the outcome will be but i have a about a half gallon of mead i made 9 months ago and i think it is in a stuck fermentation because the gravity is at 1.48 i tried drinking some of it but it is way to sweet and it gave me instant gut rot. what i am thinking about doing is adding...
i need to bring this thread back because i think my meads are dieing.
i used my drill to stir the meads with a homemade whip, it worked great and got some good aeration going. then i took medsenfey's advice and let my mead sit and ferment for the last two weeks and i checked them today and...
i have been stirring my two carboys three times a day for the last two days as advised. i took a gravity reading from both and one has dropped ten points and the other has dropped 20 points in the last two days. i know i still have along of way to go but does this fermentation is back on track...
sorry one more question would it be a good idea to add potassium bicarbonate to raise the ph levels, i have never done this and i don't know much about it. i just think i read that the ph needs to be at the right level for a prime yeast climate for fermentation. any thought on this.
p.s...
ok so i will stir it for the next 4 or 5 days and take another reading then. do you think i need to add anymore nutrients before the 1/2 sugar break to compensate for the co2.
and thanks for the help
This is first time making mead and i have a six and a five gallon carboy fermenting in primary. i pitched the yeast in both of them on Tuesday(six days ago) and they have only dropped from 1.132og to 1.10 and 1.123og to 1.10. this seems slow to me, but maybe i am wrong. today is the first day i...
wow just gave my six gallon carboy a good shake and when i put it down it blew the stopper off the top like a bottle rocket and over flowed with foam. next time im gonna be a little gentler so i dont end up with a nine grade science class volcano ha, mission accomplished though.
