I want my cake and eat it too

Thank you all for your replies to my questions. I got into brewing beer less than a year ago, so I'm sure some of my questions on here seem pretty simple or silly. The one thing I am finding out is brewing at home can be as complicated, technical or as scientific as a person wants to make it...

I want my cake and eat it too

I'm curious now, what constitutes a "world class Pilsner" or "the best beer they can make" I realize there are guidelines such as with BJCP, but as I'm sitting here thinking about it, I 'm going to say that the brew you drink and go "damn, that's a good beer" is "world class". :mug:

I want my cake and eat it too

It would be interesting to hear what others have to say about White labs 029 yeast and what they have experienced.

I want my cake and eat it too

Could I use White Labs 029 with any Oktoberfest recipe I find or are there specific items i need to look for in the recipe that work best with this yeast?

I want my cake and eat it too

Brewing with limited temperature control over fermentation. I would like to start brewing more than ales and brew Pilsners and maybe an Oktoberfest, but I’m limited in being able to control fermentation temperatures. The room I use to brew in is 10x20 with window air-conditioning. I have...

Help!!! I'm confused and can't get out.

Natdavis777, if your taking your OG before you kill your boil when do you check volume going into the fermentor? If low and you add water would that not change OG?

Help!!! I'm confused and can't get out.

cider123, Reaching the target OG with the correct volume is goal of mine along with not making all this complicated. I don't need to know the scientific aspect of all this. I just want to know if I do this, this will happen. All that thinking makes my head hurt. I think what I'm going to do...

Help!!! I'm confused and can't get out.

Thanks for the quick responses, I did use an online adjustment tool for temp and have that figure written down. This past brew day was definitely a learning adventure for me. Through a "OOPS, did I ever read that wrong" mistake that led to me using 3 gallons to much water in the boil to a...

Help!!! I'm confused and can't get out.

Last weekend was my first time using a recipe to brew by instead of a kit from a brew shop. I have done a few extract batches and have now gone to BIAB. With the kits, I would take the OG and FG readings only. This time I thought I would advance myself and try SG readings at different times...

    Finding boil off rate

I have attempted to set up a BIAB equipment profile in BeerSmith 2. This is my first try so don't be easy on me. Please take a look and let me know your thoughts and feel free to ask any questions about my equipment or brewing processing.

    Finding boil off rate

My measuring stick is piece of wood that I marked at gallon intervals up to 12 gallons. to come up with the location of these marks I poured 1 gallon of water in the kettle then marked it at the water level. Anything between the gallons marks is an estimate. I doubled checked my gallon marks...

    Finding boil off rate

Hi all, I’m setting an equipment profile for Beer Smith2 and am attempting to determine a boil off rate. I’m hoping that by boiling 5 gallons of plain water it will get me in the ball park for a boil off rate. I realize there are a lot of variables, to many to have a perfect boil off rate for...

    1st time Yeast Starter

Thanks for the quick response eadavis80 and BlueHouseBrewhaus. I have moved it to the fridge so the yeast will settle to the bottom. I'm going to try and make the brew the batch of beer I got the yeast for in a day or two.
