    Hydrogen Peroxide for Aeration

I jumped into this topic late, but I want to input my biology background into this mess. Hydrogen peroxide(H2O2) is one of many molecules known as 'Reactive Oxidative Species' or ROS( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reactive_oxygen_species ). ROS's highly reactive and tend to cause problems for...

LHBS brought down the hammer of noobishness

That sucks, I'm on iffy straights with my LHBS because they remember me as "the guy who was buying his stuff online. *insert cackle*" I take offense to that because I search for the best prices and also for the convince of having it shipped to me. They can laugh all they want, but the online...

    Home Lab

Don't get me wrong I would love to have my own lab to do all of this. It would be so boss, but knowing the pricing of science equipment makes my head want to hurt when thinking about buying some of this stuff privately. The cost of going out to keep all your yeast strain library in working...

    Home Lab

Work bench A surface to work on that you can clean w/ 90-95% ethanol + Lysol(or other sanitizer). Propagation A stir plate + Erlenmeyer Flask(I wouldn't go bigger than 500 mL). For Slants Test tubes + Inoculation loop + Agar powder. For freezer storage(-20*C) Microfuge tubes 1.5 mL +...

    Yeast and Creatine?

Creatine only effects the specialized muscle cells of Vertebrates. It will likely have no effect on or even adverse effect on your yeast. If the yeast did swell with water(hyperosmotic conditions) they can lyse and die. That's no good for your beer making when you're causing your yeast to die...

What is the Weirdest thing you have ever brewed?

Blackberry Braggot. I would do it all over again with more blackberry this time. It was... amazingly a mix between champaign, beer, and win almost when It came out. Also because I over-carbonated the hell out of it. I'm not usually a fan of fruit in my beer.

    Any problems with plate chillers??

If you want to get tit-for-tat about it you didn't really specify what temperature the afterchiller was at at the time. Yes I cut off that sentence, but it's because you had said that the only cooling temperature used in this process was 80*F at the time w/o giving the temp of the afterchiller...

    Any problems with plate chillers??

Ok I didn't want to, but here you go He points out that with this statement you can literally not cool 150*F wort with 80*F water to achieve a final temperature of 70*F in your wort. Laws of thermodynamics state that this is IMPOSSIBLE. You say you use a pre-chiller, but 80*F water has no way...

Brewing Beer, Drinking Beer and Managing Beer Gut

Nice topic. I've noticed I've gained a lot of weight since I started drinking. At lot of it has to do with how the body metabolizes ethanol and the remaining carbohydrates left in the beer. Most of the beer is going straight to our waste-lines. I for one have tried to become more active by...

    Brewmasters Warehouse

Ed, I placed an order with you recently and you seem to have left out 4 ft of 3/8th hose. It appears on the order list on your website(in my order history), but it was not in the box I that arrived nor on the order list that was physically sent to me. I was wondering if I need to email somebody...

Help me build an orange IPA partial mash

Hunter orange is perfect for my application! I was thinking of Titan and Hopsecutioner when developing this idea. I was having trouble fumbling with the grains to determine what I need, but I figured it out using the brew builder on Brewmasters Warehouse website.

    Alcohol Boost Off Flavor?

Oh Thanks, didn't know. I want that feeling in most of my brews, so that's my take on it. I haven't noticed off flavors, but yeah you do get the alcohol rising off of your tongue with it, but only as much as the 1% takes you over the edge of 6% - > higher % I think. Just my personal tastes though.
