    Coating inside aluminum mini-keg

I came across a small 'Tapper' keg like this one: http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/NDgwWDY0MA==/z/xQMAAOSwGYVW-W-b/$_1.JPG I plan on refurbing what I can and modifying it to run off a regular CO2 tank. My only concern is that there is a grayish tan coating inside the keg that has flaked off in a few...

Nothing but foam and I can't figure out why

Its completely open when I pour, its just a mess. I burped my keg and dropped the pressure to ~7psi. The weird thing is that a large amount of CO2 bubbled into the keg (it was on its side) when I did this. It sounded like it does when you just start carbonating. I'm kind of really confused. It...

Nothing but foam and I can't figure out why

I think I have some 3/16 line around here somewhere... But my corny keg out adapter has a 1/4 barb on it, and it was tight getting my 1/4 line on. Theres no way I can get 3/16 on it. I think my fridge is a little over freezing, so i'd guess ~35 F. I've read that ciders are often carbonated...

Dispensing a full keg at once, can I use air instead of co2?

No need to get pissy. Anyone can tell from the quality of the post that he had actually taken time to respond rather than just spout off a bunch of stuff that doesn't even make sense. Have a beer and relax. Rmike: I'm not concerned about the time at all. I'm very patient when it comes...

Dispensing a full keg at once, can I use air instead of co2?

In a broad sense fluid dynamics is appropriate. The motion of liquid and gas, displacement, and phase change between the two, etc. :p Anyway, its nice to hear from someone else who has actually put some thought into it. I'm not sure what you mean when you say I don't have the means to store my...

Dispensing a full keg at once, can I use air instead of co2?

Ok, I'm trying to understand your 2nd paragraph. If the beer is carbonated, the gas used to pressurize the keg will never make it to the bottle; its just being used to displace the liquid in the keg. You are never pushing any form of gas into the bottle. The co2 bubbling out of the brew would...

Dispensing a full keg at once, can I use air instead of co2?

After getting a keg, $125 is way out of my budget. Its tough being picking and poor at the same time :D Regardless of what you use to push the beer out, the bottles are going to be full of air to begin with. Maybe I'm just not understanding what you are getting at. I know its not ideal to have...

Dispensing a full keg at once, can I use air instead of co2?

I'd like to get a keg setup some day (just to force-carb, I'd like to then bottle it), but that costs money and I really can't justify spending what it requires to get a good keg system. So my cheap plan is to carb the beer using priming sugar in the keg to get the whole batch done at once...

    My first cider attempt

As fermentation is winding down I'm debating wether or not I should carbonate it. I'd have to bottle-carb as I have no other means, and I *hate* the sediment that bottle-carbing creates. Is flat cider common?

    Grolsch bottle seals

I scored 13 grolsch bottles at a yard sale for $4 (i'm pretty thrilled about that), but a lot of the rubber seals are dried out and two are missing. I work at a hardware store, so I can get o-rings for almost nothing. Would one of those seal it well in the long-run? I haven't used grolsch...

    My first cider attempt

A week and a half later fermentation is almost done; its at 1.010 now. Another week or two in the primary and I'll rack it off. Its a lot lighter in color now, and I'm sure it will lighten up as more solids precipitate out. Perhaps most of the brown color in cider is just suspended solids...

    My first cider attempt

We have a crab apple tree but its just ornamental, I wouldn't want to try the fruit :cross: We usually pick our apples into milk crates, when when we put it into gallon jugs we can load it up in the crates again, it keeps it organized. We also put a crate of pears in for every 10 crates of...

    My first cider attempt

We have a small orchard, so we decided to make a batch of hard cider this year. We press it ourselves, so it is unpasteurized, pure cider. Ingredients: 3 gallons cider Lalvin 1118 yeast (its just what I had laying around) I killed off wild yeast with campden, waited 24 hours and...

Raspberry/Strawberry wine has a weak flavor, what to do?

I used 7.5lb of raspberries and 3.5lb strawberries to make a 3-gal batch of wine. I started it about 3 months ago and tasted a sample today after racking it. It has a decent kick from the alcohol, but there is very little actual flavor. What should I do to bring some fruit flavor back to the wine?

    Stir plate for degassing?

My plan was to attach my brake bleeder to the carboy while stirring. With my bleeder attached even a gentle swirl drops the vacuum quite a bit. I suppose my main goal is simply to stir/agitate the wine while the airlock or vacuum is attached.
