    Smaller batch, lower efficiency

True. But this was more the question of "why does it change? " Rather than a cry of "I´m ruined" And I guess the lower liquor ratio and the top off are to blame. Always nice to know whats happening :)

    Smaller batch, lower efficiency

    Sounds like a plan :mug:

    Smaller batch, lower efficiency

Yeah I pretty much just topped it off. I guess I knew that my efficiency would drop a bit, but 20 % came as quite a shock. Next time I´ll sparge to add the water and do a mashout and take it from there. Thanks for the input

    Smaller batch, lower efficiency

Only because the size of the cooler wont allow me to put all the water in there with the grain. I can have about 8-10 quarts of water with 5-6 lbs of grain and thats it.

    Smaller batch, lower efficiency

Hello brainboxes. I´ve been brewing biab 10 gallon batches for about 2 years now and for the first couple of batches struggled with efficiency. After I made myself a grain mill things took a turn for the better and eventually I could rely on an 80 % efficiency. After a few incidents with the...

    Aeration system trouble

Hey guys. Bought myself a fermentap aeration system. Its a small pump with an inline filter and a 2 micron diffusion stone. Boiled the stone for the recommended 2-3 minutes and tried it out in a glass of water. No bubbles. I searched the internet and found some advice about boiling it longer...

Fermentation with no bubbles no krausen

I can imagine that no bubbles in the airlock means that there is maybe a leak in the lid so the co2 escapes through there. But the lack of krausen... is it possible that it came and went in the 50 hours from brew to me finally checking for it? Any thoughts?

Fermentation with no bubbles no krausen

This last saturday I brewed a 10 gal batch of tri centennial ipa. Its all grain biab. I tried for the first time a temp profile mash and wound up with a higher efficiency than i have had in the past. Did a 60 min boil, chilled with an immersion chiller. Put the whole batch in a 14 gal plastic...

Boil off rates, trub loss etc

Thanks. Seems to me that the biggest reason is the trub loss, wich is set at 1.5 gallons when in my system it is almost 0,0

Boil off rates, trub loss etc

I am new to biab. On my 7th batch now. Very early got the beersmith 2 software. My setup is a 70 liter kettle with a 5500 w heating element, an immersion chiller. When i brew, i go for a 40 liter batch, which is around 10 gallons. I always put the recipe into the beersmith to check how much...

    Adding water post mash?

By sg i mean my post mash pre boil gravity. By og i mean my boiled wort original gravity. I am not talking about a specific recipe but more a general practice. If for some reason the grain is not supplying me with the sugars it is supposed to, am i better off holding back a gallon or so in a 10...

    Adding water post mash?

I agree. The setup is coming along and using the beersmith i've thusfar been able to calculate my volumes and gravities very nicely. But being in a rural area and not being able to jump to the store if i need more grain i was just wondering if this was a viable option. I only get precrushed...

    Adding water post mash?

Hi guys. Doing a BIAB 10gal batch, is it good or bad business using less than the prescribed amount of water in the mash? Because i recently had my sg and og too low. Probably because i put in maybe 0.5 gal too much water. So i thought better too over shoot the sg by using less water and being...

    Lager yeast

Saflager s-23, ideal temp given 55-60. Got an old fridge tall enough for two 5 gal buckets that does not run so good but i'm able to keep it at a solid 50. So the plan is to let it sit at 50 for two weeks, then rack to a secondary and chill down to refridge temp and lager for as long as i can.
