    Tilt Hydrometer Cracked/Leaked During Fermentation

They came through and agreed to replace it. The rumors regarding Tilt’s CS are true!

    Tilt Hydrometer Cracked/Leaked During Fermentation

I agree, I was surprised about that too. I certainly didn’t notice any cracking when the brew started (as I wouldnt have used it if I did) or any time before then, but I suppose it could have been initially obscured by the threading before it got that big. Having said that, the case cracking...

    Tilt Hydrometer Cracked/Leaked During Fermentation

Got it at the end of January but have only brewed 4 batches on it and I normally clean it with Star San (as I have heard that soaking it in PBW/One Step can cause cracking.)

    Tilt Hydrometer Cracked/Leaked During Fermentation

That’s a separate issue that I am taking up with Tilt/Northern Brewer/my credit card company, but you are 100% correct. Thanks for the feedback.

    Tilt Hydrometer Cracked/Leaked During Fermentation

Hey all, I recently used my Tilt to track a beer’s fermentation and about 4 or 5 days in, it stopped working. After I bottled and had a chance to look at the Tilt, I noticed a small amount of wort had gotten in through a crack located at the threaded end of its plastic casing. Here is a photo...

Selling a bunch of home brewing equipment in Culver City, CA (local pickup only). I recently upgraded my setup so my old gear is just taking up space. Everything is used but in great condition and all reasonable offers will be considered. I have: 10gal Igloo cooler style mash tun with false...

Metalworking Table for Fabricating Brewing Equipment

Generally speaking, there is always a reason why something is “cheap”. While I will definitely spring for a nice welding table when it comes time to get deeper into the craft, I am just getting into metalwork right now so all I need is a relatively compact surface that won’t melt, catch fire, or...

Metalworking Table for Fabricating Brewing Equipment

Hrm... Maybe I should just go with a butcher block top for the table and get a small, cheap welding table that I can pull out when needed instead. Thx for the advice!

Metalworking Table for Fabricating Brewing Equipment

Thanks for the feedback. I live in West Los Angeles so if someone has a line on scrap metal, I would be all over it. That aside, why is 16g not thick enough if I am just going use it as a surface for cutting/grinding/brazing and not MIG/TIG welding or plasma cutting?

Metalworking Table for Fabricating Brewing Equipment

Thx for the feedback. I plan on upgrading to a proper welding setup when I take the plunge into learning MIG/TIG/plasma but for the time being, I don’t need that. As a result, I am thinking about going with 16 gauge cold-rolled steel sheet metal on top of a piece of 3/4” MDF for the time being...

Metalworking Table for Fabricating Brewing Equipment

Thanks for the feedback. I knew galvanized would contaminate stuff if it came in contact with water/was used in the brewing process, but I didn’t know it would contaminate my tools. Will def. be switching to mild steel. The reason for wrapping the sheet metal around the edges is that in my...

Metalworking Table for Fabricating Brewing Equipment

Hi all, I recognize I am stretching the limits of what is appropriate to discuss here, but I am just starting to get into metalwork and want to incorporate it into my DIY brewing projects. While learning how to use a MIG/TIG welder and plasma cutter are definitely on my to do list, l only have...

    Motorized Mash Stirrer

You would think that, however I have tried multiple different locations for placing my probe (including right at the mash tun return) and I still get MLT temperature readings that wildly fluctuate. As for insulation, I've taken multiple readings at different locations in the center of the grain...

    Motorized Mash Stirrer

In addition to eliminating channelling, the main reason why I want to build a motorized mash stirrer is to reduce/eliminate temperature pockets. Without the constant stirring, those temperature pockets can cause in my mash temp to fluctuate wildly (which makes calculating a RIMS offset impossible)
