A container of garlic powder rolled out of my cupboard and smashed my hyrdrometer a couple weeks ago. It's a few more bucks to replace. All hobbies are supposed to cost money, right? :)
Haha, thanks guys. I'm listing this batch under "Learning Experience" :o
I'm having a glass of Jameson 12 year to mourn the loss, reflect, and plan for the next batch.
RIP, beer. RIP.
Yeah, that pic was after I popped the rest of those bottle-bombs. The ones that exploded blew out the bottom.
I'm going with an ale for my next batch. I don't want to deal with lagers for a while, lol.
Aren't Blue Moon bottles twist tops? I was always told to use pop tops :mug:
Star-san or Iodophor... I've yet to make a decision, but I am changing from bleach.
Infection most likely. I've done 6 batches and it's been smooth sailing until now. They've only been in the bottle 2 weeks and they started exploding. So, I opened up the remaining time-bombs to salvage the bottles. I think it's time to switch to Iodophor and review my sanitizing methods...
Jesus Christ. I was making soup today and one of my spices fell down an SMASHED my glass hydrometer before I could take a reading. lol.... really, not funny though. I'm sad.
I will update as soon as possible.
Thanks for the crash course guys. I think I jumped to conclusions about the yeast not being viable. I will take some hydrometer readings and get back to you.
My first guess would be the low temperatures caused the problem, but the fact that that my other batch (created side by side) seems to be fermenting leads me to believe it's some type of bacterial issue... not sure.
I may just end up trying a different yeast and try to find a more suitable...
Hi all, I tried searching the forums for my answer but didn't find a good answer.
First and foremost, I'm new to brewing. I've done 6 ales and 1 lager... so far, so good. The batch I'm having a problem with is an Octoberfest recipe from my local brew supply shop. I can see yeast sediment...
