    2 Keggle Brewing

Hastings - this is the method that I use in my electrical system, simply because I don't really have the room right now for the 3rd keg on my stand. I heat up my strike water in my HLT/Boiler, do an infusion mash, heat up sparge water in the HLT, drain into a 7 gallon bucket, and then add the...

Is dry Notty just a really low-key yeast?

I use notty almost exclusively. Depending on pitching temps, the lag on it is anywhere from 12-36 hours. Depending on the make up of the wort, there is generally only a 0.5-2.0" krausen, and it generally looks pretty clean (fine bubbles like you said). I always get rapid fermentation till...

    Electric brewery contol box schematic

Assuming your PID is bring powered by 120 VAC, why not just use a toggle switch on the PID, which in turn cuts off the juice to the element?

2 packs of Nottinghams...... kinda scary

I consistently make a 6-7% 11 gal batch of "pounda porter" with a pound each of chocolate, roasted barley and black patent. Not really a porter, but man does it taste good. Also fermented with notty as it's my house yeast.

    Dumping Bad Batches....

I've dumped 2-3, it's usually very depressing to send it down the drain, but all in good spirits as you intend to fill them back up with better tasting beer. I've also dumped a batch of cider after it got infected, I just through the entire box of bottles out...

    Electrical Primer for Brewers

In Soviet Russia, system wires you! Well, the way I see it, my dryer has been fine for the 20 years it's been on this circuit, so I hope the brewery is. I've also seen many other systems that use the same method that I have....however, these guys haven't updated their blogs in a while...

Best brews to ferment in winter?

I would recommend scotch ales, or an ale using nottingham dry yeast (my personal favorite). At 58-62F I find that this yeast ferments out incredibly clean and smooth. Great for harvest or generic dark ales.

Spent grain cookies for horses any recipes?

I do this for my dogs: Mix equal parts moist grain and flour to create a dough like consistency. Add flavoring if necessary (I use peanut butter for dogs, not sure for horses) Add an egg or two based on batch size (I find they stick together enough regardless) Roll out onto a baking sheet...

    Electrical Primer for Brewers

Will a gfci breaker circumvent the danger you mentioned, or is the danger inherent anyway since you're stating the ability of a safe ground isn't really there?

    Electrical Primer for Brewers

Regarding the dryer outlet, I use one of those. I just use the middle wire as the ground and everything tests out ok.
