    Hello From Alabama and Arkansas

Welcome to the forum. This is a great place to learn and ask for advice. I don't think there are any LHBSs in T-Town. I think the closest store to you will be in Birmingham, ALABREW. I use this guys and they're great.

    Trying to start Partial Mash

I've used Chris Colby's technique with great success. Here's a link...http://***********/feature/1536.html I think I spent and extra $10.00 on equipment (cooler and mesh bag).

    e-Brew Strawberry Blonde kit

I've only done one fruit beer Sweet Water Blue Clone and it didn't turn out very "fruity". I added my fruit flavor/extract to my carboy after 7 days. There was a very slight hint of fruit, but you really had to search for it. I've heard from others, flavor additions like this should be...

    Northern Brewer Kits

Yep...If you click the Beer Ingredients link on the left (before you click the Ale Kits, High Gravity kits, etc.) They charge $.75 for each ice pack. By the way, I've brewed a few of their kits and they all have turned out great.

    kolsch/honey kolsch

I brewed the NB Kolsch 6 weeks ago and had the same crazy fermintation. It was EXTREMELY active, I ended up having to use a blow off tube for a week or more. It also ferminted a lot longer than most of my others, I ended up leaving it in the carboy for a month before I started getting...

First PM. I searched, still unsure

I've done a few recipes using the technique Chris Colby describes in BYO and it was very easy to follow. Chris (IMHO) does a great job explaining the process. http://***********/feature/1536.html The PM's I've done have all turned out pretty good.

    Hey! from LA

Welcome to the forum. This place has helped me a ton over the past year. True on the legality thing, I can't say I've ever seen the homebrew thing enforced though. A few folks (http://www.freethehops.org) here in bama have taken these issues to heart. They've started a campaign to change...

    Measuring efficiency for partial mash?

A cheap Turkey baster is another option for pulling samples...drop the sample in your hydro jar/tube...no mess...no burnt hands from dripping hot wort.

NB Phat Tyre Extract w/ New Belgium Yeast

I brewed this kit back in November and I had good/active fermintation for about 5 days at 66f. I let it sit 4 weeks in the bottle before the first sample. It was good (not great), but for some reason there was very little head and low carbonation. I let it go another two weeks and the beer...

    Blueberry Wheat

I've done a couple blueberry beers for SWMBO and they turn out ok. I'm not much on fruit beer, but she likes it. I didn't use as much hops as the recipe calls, I only used 1oz of Hallertau and no Cascade. The late addition of DME or LME is a great idea on a brew like this, it should help keep...

    Northern Brewer extracts

I recently started using Northern Brewer just to try something different from what my LHS had in stock. I have been shocked at how much better my beer has turned out. MY LHS was a great help getting me started, but they just don't have the turn over to keep fresh ingredients on hand. I've...

    Hello from Kentucky

welcome to the site. you picked a great place to learn. I started brewing in Feb. and would have crashed and burned without this site. I wouldn't worry too much about your color. My first few batches were a bit on the dark side, but tasted great. I'm an ex-Kentuckian (Bowling Green)...

    Did I ruin my brew?

I did the same exact thing a few months ago with a double IPA. The beer turned out just fine. Someone from the board (yooper chick I think) recommended that I pick up a few extra grommets at the LHBS next time. I now have a stash of extra grommets and carboy stoppers.

    Hello from North Alabama

Welcome to the forum Tool... You're dead on. If you have a LHBS in your area, use them. I would have crashed and burned without the guys at the shop here. They'll help guide you through what kit best meets your needs. And 99.... If I make an American Wheat (all wheat malt) and use Hefe...

    Hello from North Alabama

The American Wheat is basically the same as a Hefe. Beer Advocate has a great style guide that explains each style here's a link. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/style/93 In case you would like a recipe...here's a link to one I did last Spring. It was SUPER easy to brew. My friends loved it...
