I'm 10 days into fermenting a amber ale... I did a 15 minute pellet hallertau addition to the kit as well as some irish moss... Just to see if I can get a clearer beer.
So its been in a warming bath at 20-22 for the 10 days.. Pretty sure its at FG... Took a sample and it was just FULL of...
@Boo Boo... You're probably right, spoiled brew. Glad you're willing to dispose for me, just send me a check for $100 for shipping costs and it'll be on its way ;)
So I probably already know the answer to this but... Well hell, you guys are all so helpful I figure I'll post it anyway... Worst case scenario I'll get a RDWHAHB.
So I'm currently brewing a Morgan's Royal Oak Amber Ale and its been in the FV for a week... This is my third brew and I've still...
i have one... I was a little hesitant at first due to the lack of an airlock, but im on my third brew and its going great... I love that i can watch it brew
So my understanding is that to achieve the best clarity you need to get as close to a full boil as possible, chill you wort fast and using some irish moss can help... Does length of boil contribute to clarity?
Oh no, i know that to add the hops I have to boil... The hops is an addition to the kit that I chose to do.
I'm talking about just a standard can kit... They are technically no boil kits
Hey guys,
About to start my third brew... I got a Morgan's Royal Oak Amber Ale, 1.3kg of muntons plain amber LME and an ounce of hallertau hops. (thinking of adding 500g of dark brown sugar)
I was wondering about boiling kits... I know I don't NEED to boil them... But if i'm adding the extra...
Thanks guys, ill be dropping by my LHBS to pick up a second set of PET bottles anyway, so i think i'll grab some hops while I'm at it!
I'll be hoping straight in the primary... Don't own a secondary... I'm sure it'll be fine
How late is too late?
I'm brewing my second batch ever... The cooper's lager the DIY kit comes with.
Not a huge lager fan so i decided to add 1KG of honey to the brew to spice it up a bit.
2 weeks in the FV at about 16 degrees... Primary fermentation is pretty much done. FG has held at 1010...
So I'm sure it's not news to anyone else but i just realized my hydrometer is a tiny bit off for calibration... I tested it in tapwater and it gave me -0002
So 5 days into my first brew and my readings are
OG 1045 (including the extra 2 points)
SG 1011 (also adjusted)
The top 2" of the brew...
Thanks a ton guys. I'm anxious and excited to be starting out with home brewing. I'll give the repeated pouring a shot on my SG a few days from now.
The sample tasted pretty good, all things considered... even this early it's better tasting then the "premium" garbage they're selling at my...
Oh definitely. Its still really cloudy. I just saw the surface foam dying away and thought out with the croisin (sp?) collar and lets take a sample. I'll likely give it another 6 days before I bottle it.
So 3 days fermenting my very first brew and i decided to take an SG sample. Also to taste it and see if there are any off flavors that might indicate infection...
So sue me I'm a little impatient ;P
OG was 1043
SG is 1013
That seems awfully low, awfully quick... Could the carbonation in...
