    Grainfather!!

Been using my 110V GF for 2 years now... I figured that I should bring this thread up to date by saying how awesome this little machine is! I've heard people complain that it takes too long to heat up the mash water.. but the latest revision and some before that have a start timer.. so you can...

    Grain Father users

Thanks guys.. is it fairly simple to transfer the recipes from this forum into the GF software? I was using their database because it's all sorted out.. haven't manually entered a recipe in the GF yet. But I think I'm starting to be more confident in modifying/creating some recipes!

    Grain Father users

Hello! Any Grainfather users on this forum? I'm asking because I recently purchased a grainfather and brewed about 6 batches with it and I must say that I really enjoy brew days with this machine compared to my old low-tech brewing setup. What I really dislike about it is the lack of...

Why is my beer too dry?

Hey! it's been a while since I posted here.. Is there a way to "fix" this after the beer has fermented?? is there a way to add malty sweetness so the batch can be saved and consumed? I just brewed a batch of American IPA and after only 4 days of fermenting the sample was so dry and bitter. I...

    Customizing Festa Brew kits

Hey guys.. I know this thread is really old but I've been experimenting with Festa Brew kits for a while now./ My absolute best mod would be my RIIPA, "Red Imperial IPA" I bought a 1Kg container of Liquid Amber malt, and boiled it with some water and 1oz of Simcoe hops. Dry hopped it with 1oz...

Just got a Festa Brew West Coast IPA kit today, has anyone tried it?

I'm guessing this is an old post but ya. I tried it several times with great success. It's almost goof proof. Just poor it in fermenter, add yeast and done! I've messed up a couple AG batches and got pretty discouraged so now I'm starting at the bottom of the ladder again. These kits taste...

    Is Peat Smoked Malt Evil?

I remember reading that this was the way they dried the malt back then. They burned PEAT to heat the kiln which would also smoke it it. I guess they found better methods later on and ditched the peat.

    malts that add sweetness

I agree with you here. When you add dry hops in secondary it seems to wake up the yeast and drop down the gravity. It happened to a couple of my batches. I added an oz or 2 of cascade pellets and there was a huge reaction. then the air lock starts bubbling for days after. It's almost like...

    Burning Nose

My basement is really cold. "around 12 degrees celcius" so this is why I used the brew belt to hold a steady fermentation temp. I've used it in the past with no problem but this is my first attempt at a 9% beer. I threw in 2oz of cascade for dry hopping. I'm hoping that this will mask the...

    Burning Nose

I used a brew belt for 3 days to keep a steady temperature of 26 degrees. At least thats what the thermometer tape strip said. I used 2 packs of rehydrated Nottingham yeast. It got violent because things got messy in my laundry tub. I dry hopped it so ill have to wait until I bottle to...

    Burning Nose

Hello. My brother inlaw and I just attempted to brew an IIPA but I think there might be a couple problems here.. It was an expensive all-grain batch so I'm hoping there's a way to save it. Problem one - I took a nice sniff after removing the fermenter lid and the vapors burned my nose hairs...

    Galena vs Citra

I ended up using 1/2 cascade and 1/2 citra at flame out and I will do the same for dry hopping. Now I'm debating if I should just toss the hops lose in the secondary or put them in a bag. I sampled the wort I leeched for the hydrometer and it smelled and tasted amazing. I'm really looking...

    Galena vs Citra

Thanks for the input. My LBS has a very crappy selection when it comes to Bittering Hops. They mostly stock noble hops and the more mellow stuff.. I'm making an IIPA here and now you guys got me worried that the 60min 1oz Galena hop addition might not be enough bitterness. This is the hop...

    Galena vs Citra

I would really love to but these 2 are the only options at the moment. Perhaps I should use the Galena as the Bittering and add the Citra during flame out or dry hop?

    Galena vs Citra

Good day! I'm about to brew a batch of IIPA tomorrow and my LBS didn't have either Chinook or Columbus in stock so I bought 2 potential substitutes. Galena and Citra have similar alpha acids and both claim to have citrus notes. Can anyone chime in on their experience with either or of these...
