    hahahaa.. i was afraid i would hear something like this. the liquid yeast said to consume within 4 months after bottling. guess i should shoot for then?

    so i have just started my 2nd ever batch of brew. it was set to be a German Alt style. only problem is i added 4 times the amount of chocolate and black Patent grains. long story........ best i can tell is i will end up with some kind of bitter,chocolate dark or imperial stout? any thoughts?

    frazier, the recipe was just a thrown together last minute of what was left over from the local home brew store that is now closed. the owner Paul said "this will make something like a porter/stout" lol

    thanks for the feed back. any suggestions on how to get the hydrometer down into the carboy and back out to get the reading? also my brew still has a good 8 inches of the krausen is still present. is that pretty normal?

    ok,i skipped the secondary fermentation and just left my brew in the primary fermentor. its been 13 days and i have had little to no activity in 3 or 4 days. my temp has been consistent at 69-70 degrees. another issue i had is this is my first brew and i did not get a gravity reading before...

    Thanks guys, I was able to rig one up and saved from crazy overflow,this site is a life saver. I'm pretty excited about it, I don't expect my first batch to be great but, it will help me get my feet wet. maybe even my whistle if I'm in luck.I live in Louisville, Ky.

    I just started my first brew ever(50 hours ago) a porter/stout. my primary is a glass carboy roughly 6 gallon. i made a 5 gallon batch, at first i feared my yeast was not going to work and ferment my wort. 10-12 hours later in started bubbling up like crazy. now the top section in filling up...
