Isolated Yeast (Tree House): How to Identify and Characterize?

I do feel that there is some variation on treehouse batches, but I think it ranges from a good beer on a bad batch, to amazing on a good one. Every batch doesn't hit it out of the park but I am never disappointed. I also find that their beers are a little harsh when fresh, not typically...

Isolated Yeast (Tree House): How to Identify and Characterize?

The recipe I like uses 4.5oz/5gal in the whirlpool and 6.5oz/5gal of dry hops. I get plenty of juicy hop flavor too much IMO with LAIII. I think hop quality plays a big role as well. I recently started buying my hops directly from Yakima Valley rather than my local homebrew shop. Not only is...

Isolated Yeast (Tree House): How to Identify and Characterize?

I tend to agree with @TheHairyHop on LAIII. I have been using LAIII to dial in my NEIPA recipe, and now that have my water chemistry, grain bill, hop schedule, and fermentation to where I want them I tend to think LAIII is "too much". When comparing to the tree house profile LAIII it too...

Isolated Yeast (Tree House): How to Identify and Characterize?

Thanks @Clyde McCoy, this is great information. Do you have the canned date vs the date these were plated? If I remember correctly when you tested the older can of very green before the WLN agag you found mostly T-58, vs this newer can has mostly S-04. Would this suggest that over time T-58...

Isolated Yeast (Tree House): How to Identify and Characterize?

Most cans that I have had have what appears to be a yeasty slurry at the bottom. I did get one beer that had a decent amount of hop material in the can, that can had noticeable hop burn, but I would say it not normal. I really doubt Tree House was using a centrifuge in their Brimfield brewery...

Isolated Yeast (Tree House): How to Identify and Characterize?

Not necessarily. Different yeasts will flocculate better than others, for example T-58, and S-04 will settle out more than wb-06 would. So you would get more wb-06 in an equal blend of the three. That would also depend on if the batches are filtered before blending. If @Clyde McCoy is seeing...

Isolated Yeast (Tree House): How to Identify and Characterize?

Although the blending method would be more consistent than a yeast blend in one batch it would be far from "simple". Assuming the heavily hopped Pale Ale is the largest % in the blend it would require having 3+ batches (blond, German Weiss, and multiple heavily hopped Pale Ales) of beer...

Isolated Yeast (Tree House): How to Identify and Characterize?

Over the past 2 weeks or so I have read through the thread and its full on great information. I have tried my hand at making a NEIPA several times with results from disappointing to good, but never anything really amazing. I have some ideas to try on my next 5 gallon brew this weekend. Let me...
