I am using a brewpi setup for monitoring/controlling the temperature in my keezer. It ran fine for years without touching it. This week I decided to update some of the software and put a new microsd card into it. After realizing the whole pi install of the brewpi is pretty much obsolete, I...
I picked up a new barrel, 20 liter european oak medium toast. It has not held anything before, so looking for suggestions on a good recipe schedule. I know the oak will be intense on the first brews and sample frequently. I've read suggestions ranging from starting with a big RIS to getting...
i've built a esp8266 based brewpi controller which has been running my keezer for some months now. I noticed this weekend that the compressor was intermittent in starting. After some investigation, I think this is due to the low drive voltage (measured 3.2v) of the SSR directly from the...
I have tested with both, but have only been using brewpi for fermentation. Also have a brewpi running on ESP8266 for my keezer. For me I find brewpi more stable and with a more responsive UI. It cannot be customized/configured the same way you can cbpi, but is excellent at stable temperature...
Brewed a milk stout last weekend. Malt bill was:
71% pale malt
9% caramunich
8% chocolate
5% flaked oats
3% black malt
3% roasted barley
1% lactose
mashed at 67-68C (153-154F) for 60 mins. OG was 1.071/1.072
pitched a two step starter of WLP002 with ~400 billion cells into 32...
Its actually a plastic lampshade I found in the as-is/clearance section of Ikea. I think it is this http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40128780/. Inside the lampshade I turned down a 6" piece of delrin into a funnel for a 2" diameter hole that feeds through the gate valve then into the...
All finished with hopper, grain shutoff valve and initially just mounted to a board. Second brew with 80+ efficiency so far. Here is with 25 lbs of grain sitting in the hopper.
Next steps just to integrate it into the table top with a motor/gearbox.
Gap adjustment is simple, the bearing holder has an eccentric bore with bearing that the rollers ride in. Take out the bolt and rotate to the next hole that adjusts the gap. Right not it is not possible to adjust the gap on the gear side without removing the gears as there is not enough...
Seems to be crushing fine on first brew. ~80% efficiency. Also started to condition my malt too, so maybe that changes things. I'm not too worried about the ease of crushing. Its up and running now. Still need to motorize it too, but for now i just manually ran it for the last batch. I...
