Brown beer w. pumpkin spice will not carbonate

I brewed a brown ale for Thanksgiving from a recipe I have used several times before wo. issues. As an experiment I added some powered pumpkin spice mix, about 2 tablespoons for 5gals. The beer has been on kegs w. app. 20psi of pressure for several months, but it will not carbonate. I have even...

Another Kegerator / Fermentation chamber idea -> Need feedback

Hi All I have a refridgerator kegerator in the garage sitting at 35F, which currently is holding 3 kegs at the bottom and bottles/cans/sodas on top. It is like this one. I need a place to ferment lagers, and since this fridge is really not that tall my idea was to build an insulated...

Noob question - Hop Head Clone

Just be carefull not to make the mash to thick (ie. go below the 1.1 qt/lbs) or to end up with too much wort after sparging (nobody wants to do a 180min boil ;-) Good luck on your first AG brew!

Noob question - Hop Head Clone

According to beersmith (using the water needed calculator) the grain will absorb app. 1.86gal, so you will need: Water into BK: = 5*1.15 = ~6gals Wort drained from mash = 5-1.86 = 3.14gals Sparge Water needed= 6 - 3.14 = 2.86gal 3gals seam realistic.... Are you batch or fly sparging? If you...

    Alternative to heatstick

Good question... It is at the very least fish safe ;-) It is of course not intended for high temperatures, but neither are the coolers we are using for mashtuns. Some of these are made in Aluminium, which would be better than the ones incased in plastic.

    Alternative to heatstick

I have been looking at most of the heatstick threads here at the forum. What I really need the heatstick for is to do step mashing. I will not need it for boil, so I figured I could use a lower wattage element say 1000 -1500w. Basically I need to be able to heat the mash (5gal batches)...

    Reusing Torpedo Hops

I just completed my first run with my new Hop Torpedo based on the water filter design. I had 3 oz of hops (Amarillo, Chinook and Centennial) in there are ran the beer from Keg to keg twice to get as much aroma out of the hops as possible. My question is: I now have 3 oz of beer soaked hops...

    57% Efficiency, AGAIN!

I only measure gravity at pitch as well, then again I have no efficiency problem... Reg. lautering speed its full on.. I double batch sparge (using BobbyMøs NMODBS), the important part when doing batch sparging is to stirr, get into it and work that mash...5 mins minimum...then vorlauf..and...

    57% Efficiency, AGAIN!

Some of the obvious things you can check first: Check your thermometer. I have had thermometers that have been 10 degrees off. Check w. ice water (~32F) and boiling water (~212F) Check your Gravity reading. Basically you check with pure water and a sugar solution. If you use 1qt and about...

    HopsDirect: $$ for 2oz packaging

I am not looking for smaller quantities, I am fine with buying hops by the lbs. But...if they would package them in nice little easy to use quantities, I would pay for that rather than have a sub-prime packing facility in my kitchen for hops. Guess I am the only one then ...

    HopsDirect: $$ for 2oz packaging

HopsDirect aka Puterbaugh farms: we all love them.. but hops come in 1lb pags which is the source of many discussions here on the forum. So the question is: How much extra $$ would you be willing to pay to have your 1 lb of hops professionally packaged and shipped in 2 oz packs? Give you...
