    Help chilling wort

I currently use an immersion chiller for wort cooling. Unfortunately the ground water here in CA isn't cold enough to get the wort down to the 70s without burning through at least 50+ gallons of water. Being that we're in a drought and I don't like paying for all that wasted water, are there any...

    Not reaching Target FG

Thanks! I did sample it at first testing and it wasn't great unfortunately. Batch 1 was certainly a learning experience.

    Getting Pliny near Santa Monica

Whole Foods typically gets it on Tuesdays, so you gotta be there as it sells out that same day. I'm in Northern CA and only a few miles away from Russian River. If you live near any cool regional breweries, we can discuss a trade.

    Not reaching Target FG

My first all grain batch came with newbie complications, so I was expecting things to be wrong. Currently, I'm on Day 8 in the secondary with a gravity reading of 1.022 (1.024 when transferred 8days ago). To note, I missed my target OG of 1.053 (actual came in at 1.046). During the mash I had...

    Amount of spare water needed...

I also think a 2 gallon boil off is high and I think that number popped up on beer smith for a 10 gallon batch. In any case, sparging is new to me and it just seems like a lot of water to do that. Thanks for the reply!

    Amount of spare water needed...

I am attempting my first all grain brew tomorrow. I have 10 lbs 6 oz of grain for an amber ale recipe. My calculations show my mash water to be 2.91 gallons. This is to be a 5 gallon post boil batch. If I also calculate my gear to boil off approx 2 gallons over an hour, is it correct that I am...

    Water question

As a newbie brewer I am using tap water. It's drinkable and do not detect any heavy mineral favors, but no it's not optimal in balanced minerals etc. I recall reading that if you fill your brew water a day in advance and let it sit, some of the compounds that are in the water may dissipate. Any...
