    PWM..Show us How

Thought this might be useful. Some visuals of the Bakatronics board in use. Swapped out C1 with a 2.2uF electrolytic capacitor as others have done. The board is descriptive, telling you where each component goes. The components and schematic. The finished board powered by a 9V...

5500W Element Control: To PID, or not to PID?

Those little ICs can get zapped with static electricity or anything, really. I think it was Walker who said he uses a DIP socket to plug the chip into. I do the same thing, because it prevents over-heating the chip when soldering. Anyway, kudos on the PWM and good luck putting it to use!

    DIY grain mill parts maybe

I was in there the other day and had the same thought! But then I noticed it was aluminum and that ruined it. Aluminum will not hold up to the job. Probably end up with bits of metal in the end product! Oh well...

    Arc Stick Welder

MIG is the way to go for a general purpose welder. The 110v models are much better these days than they used to be and you can do quite a bit with one, as long as it is 140+ amps. The Hobart Handler 140 is a great entry level machine. The welder isn't the only thing to consider though, like...

    Need 240v Wiring Confirmation

Good guess. Probably the plumber who was not licensed in the first place to do the wiring. Either something is run off of 110v in the dryer or there is something else (the chassis?) that should be grounded that is not (for the time being). I think you are right that the easiest solution for my...

    Need 240v Wiring Confirmation

You are correct. The breaker is 30a and the outlet is a nema 14-30. I am only planning on energizing one element at a time, so I will not exceed 30a, according to my calculations.

    Need 240v Wiring Confirmation

So I had been planning all along to use the 240v outlet at my dryer to power my electric setup. Two 5500w 240v elements controlled by a PWM. The PWM wants a 12vdc input so it can send a signal to the SSR. Well... I pulled the 4-prong dryer outlet apart today and realize that it had 10/2 wire...

    2-Tier Brewery Input

    I stand corrected. Thank you

    2-Tier Brewery Input

Ya, sorry. Bottom keggle is HTL, top is MLT. All electric. Updated the OP with those details.

    2-Tier Brewery Input

I drafted a model of a 2-tier brewery based on one I saw from Sabco. I couldn't find a picture of the Sabco when I actually went to do the modelling, so I did it from memory. The main thing I question about this design is the placement of the pump. I have never used one and don't know how much...

    PWM Troubleshooting - Need Input

Good points, gents. I think I will redo this circuit on a freshly cut PCB. I also like the idea of using a DIP socket for the IC.

    PWM Troubleshooting - Need Input

Understood. But at 25% it does not come on at all (as far as I can see). The bulb never flashes. At 50% it cycles on then off in 1 second intervals. Is this how it should function?

    (Yet Another) Counterflow Chiller Build

Same here. Fermenting in the south during the summer months is always fun.

    PWM Troubleshooting - Need Input

Right. That's what I was thinking, but can only guess that the cap was bad. There must still be some flaw in this PWM. Do they typically show a pulse at low pot %? My thought was that it would show a very slow pulse at low % and a fast, almost undetectable pulse at high %. :ban:

    PWM Troubleshooting - Need Input

I have two 470k resistors and a 1k per CD's schematic (note: mind has one less b/c i do not use the "power" led): http://home.highertech.net/~cdp/boilnew/boilnew.htm SweetSounds: i think it might be working at this point. I tested it on a 115v line powering a light bulb and and changed out...
