    SS Conical in Virginia

Looking for conicals for new brew setup. I'll be able to brew up to 20 gallons, so looking for conicals that can handle brews from 5-20 gallons. Only interested in stainless steel conicals. Thanks!

    2nd Time Low Efficiency (50%)?

No, I forgot about this in hopes that the mill was the only main issue. This is a solid next step. Thanks for the reminder!

    2nd Time Low Efficiency (50%)?

I've heard that milling it too close will mess with the hulls too much, which can cause off flavors. If my understanding is correct, .032" might be as far as we go. Our results efficiency were better. We had a 70% efficiency, which is great compared to the 50% we had twice in a row, but still...

    2nd Time Low Efficiency (50%)?

Finally! Brew Day! Time to test out the Barely Crusher! We set it to .035". Might try .032" next time, but didn't want to make it too fine. The crush went well. Word of advice for those who don't have a mill (yet): Don't use a cheap drill! We burnt ours out about 1/2 way through 11.5...

    Ventilation

Thanks for sharing the link to your thread. I didn't consider the amount of different factors that will determine how many CFMs you need to pull. For me, I will be working right next to a window. It gets cold where I live, so I don't want to have the window open, but if I'm realistically...

    Ventilation

Trying to do this on the cheap compared to electric brewery. Is there a minimum cfm needed for a 5-20 gallon brew? I imagine the vent is only needed for the boil, right?

    Ventilation

I'm sure this has been talked about somewhere, but I couldn't find a good thread... I assume I need to have ventilation for my brewing in the basement (electric). Batches will be 5-20 gallons. I have on my hands a duct fan...

DYI Control Panel Schematic- Double Check

I'm assuming the 175 mentioned was for a strike temperature? Do you even need a strike temperature why you're just going to cycle it in the HERMS? Reviewing the information and what I have, I'm going to go with the 60 Amp system and use Doug's schematic. It's not going to cost me too much...

    2nd Time Low Efficiency (50%)?

Awesome! We were going to try out my new Barley Crusher this weekend, but the local brew store was closed for inventory. Very depressing. The good news is that this confirms why one day I will have my own grain storage. Heck, with the ways things are going, I might as well open my own...

Going electric and at a loss

True. There's a lot of options out there for premade, and they're all expensive. Have you checked out the Electric Brewery? http://www.theelectricbrewery.com/control-panel-part-1 (make your own) http://www.theelectricbrewery.com/control-panel (buy from them) Great site, tells you how to...

    2nd Time Low Efficiency (50%)?

Good question...They said they needed a special gap tool? But I didn't think the monster mill needed anything special.

DYI Control Panel Schematic- Double Check

Our batches will typically be 10-15 gallons. If that's not too much water (or going to take a ridiculously too much time to heat up) for the 5500 element, than I'll go for a 30A system with one on at a time.

DYI Control Panel Schematic- Double Check

Oh nice. And the coil would be 110 from your schematic, right?

240v Heating Element or Elements in HLT

So I'm reviving this old thread. It's been a slow process since I first started designing and building my electric brewery (Thank goodness I could keep brewing with propane). At this point, my pots are made. The BK has a 5500 ripple and the HLT with a 5500 straight. Both are from...

    2nd Time Low Efficiency (50%)?

Fun Fact: Ordering a grain mill over a holiday ends in slow shipping. No new brewing for me this weekend.:( On another note, I went to my local brew store to ask them about what size gap they have on their grain mill. Unfortunately, no one knew the answer. They did know that it was last...
