force carbonation vs priming a keg with corn sugar

I don't have the room in my fridge to let kegs sit connected to the gas to get carbonated. Also tried forced methods and wasn't too happy with the results and used a lot of gas. So, I've been using priming sugar with mixed results. Still trying to find the right amount of sugar and the proper...

    Commercially Gluten Free Brew kits

I used the Bards Beer clone kit from Midwest Brew supply. It worked out well. My wife is the gluten free person in our house. She forgets that beer is downstairs in the fridge cuz she is so used to drinking wine now. It's been in there since August! Tried some the other week (I need that keg...

    Yeast Washing for Starter?

I just started doing the yeast wash/harvest myself. I harvested some WL810 from my primary after racking to secondary. I had at least 1.5 as much as your larger one on the left and it was yeast AND trub. I made a starter with 2cups water and 1/2 cup DME. Had good activity and krausen in the...

    Yeast Washing Illustrated -- REVISITED!!

Thanks all for the helpful tips on this subject! I gave it a try yesterday when transferring a Cali Common to secondary. At first I thought I had too much trub in my mix, but looking at it today after it had a bit longer to settle it looks better. The bottom layer was all one color...

    Natural keg carbonation, cold crash?

I've been using 3oz priming sugar for my 5gal kegs, but they are nowhere near ready in 10-14 days. I am using 4+ for my next batch. Hopefully that does it.

How much priming sugar are you using?

Do you have any GF beer (commercial) recommendations?

Sorghum "beer" will never be like traditional beer, just like GF bread will never be like a wheat based bread. It can get close, but will never be the same. Accept it for what it is. I am not gluten intolerant, but my wife is (for over 10 yrs). She used to really like her beer, so I have...

    Clarity Ferm

Um, I never called it a "success" I said I am encouraged by the possibilities. However, as gluten intolerant as my wife is, the fact that she was able to try real beer in any amount without getting ill is quite a triumph.

    Clarity Ferm

I have been using Clarity Ferm in my last four batches of brew. The latest is a wonderful California common. My very gluten intolerant wife finally gave it a try and has not had a bad reaction. So far she has only had a few sips of the beer I was drinking, trying to get her to try a small...

    Bard's Homebrew Kit

I brewed it. And the wife (she's GF) and I like it. Sorghum will never be like traditional beer. It is what it is. But, I like the Bards more than an ale I made with other sorghum extract. FWIW, I kegged mine, not bottled. Wife is very happy to have keg beer while watching football.

    Seattle must try Beers

Any of them! Manny's Pale is an unfiltered pale and found everywhere. Mac n Jack African amber is decent. LOTS of good local brews. Too many to name. Just drink any of the local stuff.

    adding water post ferm

So, I made this sorghum and Belgian candy syrup concoction for my wife. It is a three gallon batch. When transferring to the fermentor I flaked on adding some more water post-boil to bring it back up to 3 gallons. Can I boil some water, let it cool, and add it when I keg to bring it back up...

    Oats

I'm making a GF brew for my wife and was thinking of adding some GF oats to it. Should I toast them or not? Also curious if I should just steep them or boil? And how much of the oats for 2.5 gallon batch? Also while I was looking through our surplus of GF cooking supplies, I found some...

Oops! Didn' mix the sugar with water..

Phew! I dumped it in first, the got the siphon hose right down on it. Even gave it a little agitation after it was filled and I topped the keg off with CO2. Should I agitate it more or just leave it be and give it more time (like 3 weeks instead of two)? Thanks! Karl

Oops! Didn' mix the sugar with water..

I got distracted when I was transferring my beer to my keg last weekend and totally skipped the part of mixing the priming sugar with water and boiling it. I just threw the stuff in the keg and started filling it! Am I screwed or will it be okay?
