    Tri clamp INSIDE fermenter

Well, I went ahead and braised/soldered it. Used map gas and a 15%ag rod. Came out OK. Not perfect, but I think it will be perfectly ‘sanitary’ after I clean it up and polish it with a dremmel (need to go to Bunnings to get some bits). Much better than it was before at least. As for now, I’m...

    Tri clamp INSIDE fermenter

Yep that’s right. They just didn’t weld it, I guess that’s why, too difficult. I’m leaning towards silver soldering

It’s a mute point anyways, I have no need or desire to pressurise to 15 psi. I carbonate and lager in my kegs. 1-2psi maybe for transfers is all I’ll want, and I feel confotable trying that when the time comes. The thing is very sturdy and well built.

Thanks mate. I won’t pressurise it, I’m too young to die. Sorry maybe I wasent clear - all the internal welds are actually very sanitary. Have a peak at the images. Issue is the lack of welds on the inside of the cooling coil connections.

    Tri clamp INSIDE fermenter

Okay, Ive done a bit of thinking and some research and want to clarify how they did the double sided TC ports for the cooling coil. They have dimpled the wall of the fermenter outward with a die (like this: ), then TIG welded on the outside only. See my drawing. I'm thinking i can get away...

    Tri clamp INSIDE fermenter

The fermenter has arrived. Ive spent a few hours dissembling everything, cleaning, inspecting, testing. have a few things to say about it, cause i know theres some interested eyes out there. lets get the negatives out of the way first... -The internal tri clamp fittings are not good. this is...

    Tri clamp INSIDE fermenter

Hi guys I will say this, buying from China is risky. There is no way that I’m aware of to be 100% sure what you’re getting and who you’re getting it from. I dealt with a lovely lady over a Chinese IM phone app, and I have no idea how or who she relayed my requests to (I have a factory name...

    Tri clamp INSIDE fermenter

I’m in agreement with augiedoggy Above. Just to put some numbers to it, I speced my fermenter at 1.5mm thick 304 stainless, polished inside and out. You’ll find that SS’s and spikes fermenters are made from much thinner material. I will also add this: yes there is some differences between the...

    Tri clamp INSIDE fermenter

Yep, my thoughts too. I’ve got access to all the tools I may need, if it comes to that. Not scared to cut and weld if I need to. The factory has assured me the welds inside are ‘sanitary food grade’. No photos though. No pressure rating, but The factory also explained that theve been...

    Tri clamp INSIDE fermenter

Thanks again guys for the discussion. Some good stuff in there. I’ll be sure to pay it forward with a post about this fermenter when it arrives. I think it will be surprisingly comparable in both material quality and feature set to a SS brewmaster edition or spike conical, but for around 1/3 -...

    Tri clamp INSIDE fermenter

Thanks for the discussion guys, feeling better about it now. Actually feeling quite good. I have to admit, I sorta like the ability to take out the coil with no tools. Sounds like a boil or a bake between brews is all I’ll need. That is no problem at all. Question, can I boil the tri clamp...

Shoulda thought of that. I suppose I could bake them I’f I’m paranoid

    Tri clamp INSIDE fermenter

Thanks for the replys and thoughts guys No more photos yet as I’ve yet to receive it. I ordered it from a factory in China, for very cheap, obviously knowing I’m taking a risk. There is no option to send it back and canceling the order is probably more hassle than it’s worth. Busting out the...

    Tri clamp INSIDE fermenter

Wouldn’t I need to disassemble and clean every time anyways regardless of the way the coil was attached? Is there a design out there that would allow you to actually keep the coil in there while cleaning?
