Using a metal coin in auto siphon

I'd go for it. I use coins to block off the gas side of my sanke tap all the time. Just clean it very well first then sanitize it.

    ISO: Common Cellared Beers

I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but I have some 2012 Brooklyn Monster, and 12-13 Brooklyn chocolate stout.

Are you looking for a quarter of half bag of rye? I have a full bag of canadian rye malt coming, I could part with some if you wanted to split it. It's a 55 lb bag so each quarter is 13.75 lbs for $8.50.

That's what they go for here too. You can find them for less, but they will sell at $50.

Good beer store near Grand Lake St. Marys?

My brother is on vacation at Grand Lake St. Marys for the week and he wanted to know if there were any good craft beer stores around that might have something we cant get here (Pittsburgh). Also, any local breweries worth checking out? He wanted to keep travel to a minimum, so something around...

    Bayou classic sp1

Mine acts up when I use a certain propane tank, but the rest are fine. I get the same weak orange flame you talked about. I fix it by backing the regulator off of the tank about 1/2 a turn.

New Danstar Belle Saison Dry Yeast?

I used it in a tripel with 12 lbs pilsner, 8 oz. munich, 1 lb flaked barley, and 2 lbs sugar. It brought it from 1.078 down to 1.002. haven't bottled it yet, but the hydrometer samples taste great: spicy, a little fruit, not too hot just a little warm.

    wrong yeast? ?

Killians is a lager, which is why it came with the lager yeast. If you can follow the fermentation and lagering schedule, Use the lager yeast. You could do this with a swamp cooler (simple tub of ice and water that you refill every day or two) but I would suggest reading up on it thoroughly...

    What have I created? (Hefewasn't)

I would call it beer. If it's good, call it tasty beer. If it's not good call it neighbor's beer.

cocoa: dutch processed vs. unsweetened cocoa

From Jack Keller's site http://winemaking.jackkeller.net/wineblognew.asp#020512B about 7/8 of the way down under Feb.5 2012: "If you have shopped for cocoa powder in any sizeable supermarket, you probably know there are choices. But if your choices are between Baker's, Hershey's and Nestle's...

Apple cider question on existing beer yeast

Sure can, I do it all the time. You may want to use only half of the yeast cake though, it can get pretty quick and violent on a whole yeast cake. Also, you may not think to use a blow off tube with a cider but I've seen whole yeast cakes make some crazy cider-krauseny stuff shoot airlocks off.
