Struggling to get beer head since cold crashing

I do dissolve the sugar in boiling water and place the solution after cooling a bit in the bottling bucket rather than just putting the sugar in. I dont stir it however after racking the beer on top as things I have read suggest it should mix fine. I have just been out to the garage and turned...

Struggling to get beer head since cold crashing

I used normal white table sugar as recommended by the recipe. The recipe called for 100g of sugar for the 20 litre recipe. As I had around 13 litres I used 75g. I put the priming solution in the bottling bucket first then racked the cold crashed beer on top of it so it should mix properly.

Struggling to get beer head since cold crashing

I thought I had used enough if not more sugar for priming as the recipes were for 20 litres and I had around 13 litres so used 3/4 of the recipe sugar. I have been putting my glass bottles in the dishwasher to clean before spraying with star san and bottling. Would dishwashing them cause that...

Struggling to get beer head since cold crashing

I am relatively new to homebrewing but my first batch came out great and after a while bottle conditioning the beer had carbonated and I got a good head on my beers when pouring. I have since got a beer fridge with temp controller so have decided to make use of it and cold crash my beers to get...

Anyone else bottle condition in fermentation fridge?

It was mainly for space purposes really as didnt want them taking up the house and if they went in the garage would get reasonable temp drops at night. I always heard room temp was best but I thought that was about 18, maybe I keep my house too cold Hopefully that 2 degree...

Anyone else bottle condition in fermentation fridge?

Hi all, I have a fermentation fridge that I control via a temperature controller and whilst I am fermenting a batch at around 18 degrees I leave the bottles from the previous batch in there to bottle condition to stop any large swings in temp. Was wondering if anyone used the same method...

    Kolsch yeast starter

I just recently used the same yeast for the first time and although not experienced enough to say its definitely fine I can say that mine was exactly the same so probably a good sign! When shaken there were big lumps of that white stuff floating around and looked bad but guess thats typical for...

Yeast starter has strange collection on the bottom

I made a yeast starter last night and have gone to shake it today and noticed a lot of bit floating around in the liquid. When looking at the bottom there is quite large amounts of white bits settled on the bottom. Is this normal? This is only the 2nd starter I have made so not entirely sure if...

    Filtering when bottling

Thanks for the advice all. I decided to go ahead with bottling using the nylon bag to filter with a 'you live and learn' attitude being my first try at all grain. As mentioned above after the first couple of bottles it seemed that it was a lot clearer so removed the filter for the rest. The last...

    Filtering when bottling

I do have a fridge now that I can put it in but do you think it would lower the level that much that it wouldnt come out? I am also going to need to prime into here and then let it settle again so it will get churned up a bit anyway I imagine. Once the pouring starts the beer going through the...

    Filtering when bottling

Yes that is the plan for my next brew is to get a 2nd bucket to ferment in then to transfer to this one as a 'bottling bucket'. I think I will need to continually empty the nylon bag as you say unless any other advice is thrown out there. I have tried looking for answers on this and people seem...

    Filtering when bottling

Hoping for some helpful advice. I have recently just brewed my first all grain batch of beer after trying a couple of kits and I am coming up to bottling stage. I have one bucket for fermentation which I have finished dry hopping in and am now ready to bottle. My bucket has a tap on which I...
