    Lacto starter kicked up again

That’s the route I was headed. Thanks for the reply.

    Lacto starter kicked up again

I made a 1L starter of Omega lacto about two weeks ago. It started out like most lacto starters I have done. Unfortunately, life and family happen and I haven’t had time to brew. It has been sitting on the kitchen counter out of the way with sanitized foil on top. A few days ago it started...

    Brew Day Disaster

There must be something up with the Dry Irish Stout these days. I was attempting to brew one today and I had a disaster of a brew day myself. My Barley Crusher stopped crusing halfway through my grain bill. After I finally got it fixed I accidentally dumped half my grain bill on my floor. It...

Quick help please. Didn't get enough 2 row.

I was thinking either a pound of Maris Otter or some corn sugar to replace the pound of 2 Row. Anybody ever substitute a litte Maris Otter for some 2 Row?

Quick help please. Didn't get enough 2 row.

I am doing my first all grain recipe this afternoon. It is a BIAB version of a vanilla cream ale. I needed 7 lbs of American 2 row, but accidentally only ordered 6 lbs. What should I do to make up for the lb I'm missing. Should I use another lb of Maris Otter I have on hand, or a little...

A few minor issues with partial mash. Advice?

Thanks for your input. I have to confess, I'm still quite a noob and can't make sense of all the functions on Beersmith. I guess I just need to do a little more fooling with it. I have noticed the issue with beer looking really dark in a carboy before, it just seemed darker than the last...

A few minor issues with partial mash. Advice?

I did a partial mash Northen English Brown yesterday. It was only the second time I did a partial mash and the first without using a kit. I did a 5 gallon batch using a full-boil. My grains were fresh unmilled grains that I crushed beforehand with my barley crusher (factory setting). Here...

Comments on my nut brown recipe?

Thanks for the advice, both of you. I already have all the amber extract on hand now and probably wont be able to get more liquid extract before brew day (my LHBS usually closes before I can make it there after work). I guess I may just have to take that into consideration for next time.

Comments on my nut brown recipe?

I am planning on brewing a Northern English Brown this weekend. I will be doing a full-boil with a partial mash. I will be using about a 1L starter. Could I please get a few comments/suggestions on it? I am trying to make a nice nutty brown that remains fairly true to style. I was mostly...

    Toased Maris Otter?

Thanks for all the ideas. I'm looking forward to trying this out. I will have to do some experimenting.

    Toased Maris Otter?

Anybody have any experience with toasting Maris Otter? I was thinking about toasting some for a Northern English Brown I'm planning. Anybody have any experiences with toasted malt? I am wondering if I should use half regular Maris Otter and half toasted Maris Otter? Or should I just toast it...

Should I pitch more yeast before bottling my Wee Heavy?

I figured I would have enough yeast, thanks for the advice. I would not have thought of stirring up the yeast with my autosiphon. Luckily I have plenty of beer to keep me going for a couple more months.;)

Should I pitch more yeast before bottling my Wee Heavy?

I bottled a Scottish Wee Heavy on 12/14/2010. It was an extract recipe with steeping grains. It had an OG of 1.089. I used Wyeast 1728 Scottish to ferment. I pitched a 1L starter and pitched a second 1728 pack due to the high gravity. I racked over to secondary after about a month. It has...
