Watermelon wheat: extra juice = under-carbed?

Honestly, I wasn't thinking about the juice/liquid volumes at all. It didn't even occur to me until about a week before they were ready to crack. I've tried one and it still tasted a little green so I'm going to let them sit a few weeks more. I'll check the carb then. But either way - fizzy or...

Watermelon wheat: extra juice = under-carbed?

I've brewed a handful of partial extract homebrews over the past year, and all have turned out great - but I think I may have made my first mistake with this last batch. Here's what happened: I brewed 5 gallons of an American Wheat (Simply Beer from Midwest Supplies). After about two weeks in...

Watermelon wheat: extra juice = under-carbed?

I've brewed 10+ partial extract homebrews over the past year, and all have turned out great - but I think I may have made my first mistake with this last batch. Here's what happened: I brewed 5 gallons of an American Wheat (Simply Beer from Midwest Supplies). After about two weeks in the...

    Show Us Your Label

Started whipping up some horror movie-themed brews. Bottled the Bub-weiser today. Next week I bottle the others; should be ready to drink just in time for December.

Removing top layer of crud before bottling?

Yep, using corn sugar for carbonation. Very eager to sample, so I'll try a bottle after two weeks, and if it's not ready I'll just wait a little while before trying the next of the 45+ bottles.

Thanks for the helpful tips, everyone! Bottling next week - if all goes well, I'll be posting pics/reviews of it a few weeks after that.

Removing top layer of crud before bottling?

Hi there, I'm only a few weeks away from bottling my first batch of home brew - assuming everything stays the course, that is. Since I'm using one of those solid white fermenting buckets - instead of a glass carboy - I'm assuming it's going to be a little difficult to eye my brew while I'm...

    Fluctuating temp while fermenting

Hi there, So I've brewed my first batch of home brew (a boozy porter), and it's currently bucketed and fermenting. So far, everything has gone fairly smoothly. Alas, I'm in L.A., and we're currently battling some beastly temps and I'm a little concerned. I'm keeping the bucket in my...

"Secondary fermentation" question, when using single carboy

Hi there, New to the boards and new to home brewing. Excited to get started! I've seen a lot of pros and cons regarding using a single carboy during the whole fermentation process. I understand the main point of a secondary fermentation is for beer clarity. But seeing as I'm just starting...
