I am looking at upgrading my 25' stainless wort chiller to a 50' and wondering if it is worth the extra money to go with 1/2" tubing? I use a Keggle for my boil pot and plan on doing 10Gal batches in the future as well.
I am very interested in hearing how this turns out. I bought a 12pack of Snowday last night and love this stuff, my first thought was how to clone this. Please report back on how it turns out and how the side by side taste test goes. :)
Okay, so even the boil 24 hrs later even though it would kill all that bacteria there would be a potential change to the wort? I am normally brewing IPA or APAs. I was assuming that any nasties that formed in that 24hrs would be killed when I did the boil.
I was wondering if there is any potential issue if I were doing a 5 gallon AG batch and only had time to mash out to my full boil volume and then postpone the boil portion of the brew day for 24 hours? It seems like I would be able to brew more often if I could do it like this, find those...
Which controller are you using for this? I am in the same situation. I have a chest freezer that has not been converted with the keezer collar. I currently use a basic freezer/fridge controller with the dial you turn to set the temp. I live in ND and now my freezer/keezer is getting too cold. I...
I am put together a grain bill to clone Lakefront IBA. I went off the data sheet from the all grain kit sold on NB. It states in the data sheet "Lakefront recommends a 90 min boil for this recipe, making the first hop addition with 60 min remaining". The hop bill for this is 1 oz. Columbus...
I was worried about carbon monoxide levels in my garage due to running my propane burner in the garage in the winter months. Actually what I do is have the garage door all the way open and have the burner at the edge of the inside portion of the garage. I am fairly confident I am not going to...
Awesome! I love this idea. I brew in a keggle so hauling that bugger into the house would be hell to chill from faucet with thread adapter running the IC. I am going to find a submersible pump and a keg tub. Can't wait to give that a try. As far as mashing and doing my boil, I thought it went...
I use and immersion chiller. I don't have an insulated garage, no floor drain, no nothing. I have to hook up the garden hose to the spigot on the front of the house to run the IC which I was then draining the outflow into spare 6.5 Gallon brewing buckets. Will I still get the cold break action...
For any of you that brew in the North Dakota or Minnesota neck of the woods, what do you do for chilling your wort? I had to thaw out my garden hose in a warm tub of water just so I could run my chiller, then so i didn't get a huge sheet of ice in the driveway I collected all the water coming...
I was cleaning off my hydrometer today and was holding it too tightly at the top. The glass cracked pretty good from the top down about an inch and curves back up. I am actually surprised it didn't break the tip right off. Well anyways, I am guessing it is only a matter of time before it bumps...
I would suggest Ellis Island. It is not right on the strip. We actually walked there one day and we were staying at the Wynn for a work conference. They have tall beers for $1.50. We drank the Oktoberfest, it was great!
I guess Ellis Island has a great BBQ joint too! Have fun.
I am looking at dry hopping for my first time. I plan on racking to secondary and adding 2oz of cascade pellets. Is there any advantage to pulverizing the pellets first versus just dumping in the pellets as is? I just picture a clump of pellets sitting at the bottom of the carboy. I thought if...
